I share some of your concerns about the cover in certain positions particularly in central defence and Vieira has once again asserted that the squad is "Short" sentiments he expressed during the last transfer window.

In the final analysis at present we are not a club which will lavish significant sums of money in the foreseeable future and will have to rely on Loans and 'Potential' as well as players from the academy.

I wouldn't mind if we got a decent loan in and used some of our potential players. However, we've done neither. I was taken aback by us not using our loan slots in the summer. I can imagine AWB going elsewhere permanently in January too. I don't see who that leaves us. We're still incredibly slow in the transfer market despite Parish's chutzpah.

Look beyond the regular first team and you have Johnston, Butland, Ward, Riedewald, Tomkins, Mateta, Hughes, Luka - plenty of PL experience amongst that lot although admittedly some are in their later years at that level.

Then add the younger players, some of whom are on loan, and the picture is not all gloom and despair - at least in my eyes and presumably Parish given what he said.

That is a good summing up, we have good young players coming through and old finished players going out, see how some have progressed and Edouard is not proven, take time and assess in the summer

Parish said we have a good squad. In my opinion we have an ok first eleven (ok) but then poor cover. That's a pretty poor squad. We don't even have realistic cover in some positions. Worst is central midfield. Strikers non existent and past Andersen and Guehi - who's next? Let alone full backs. Wing cover? Come on Steve Parish - I'd go as far as to say we're among the bottom three squads in the division. Have we even got 25? I couldn't name 25 first teamers.

100% this, we don’t even have a full squad let alone a good squad. I find it utterly insane that we have gaping holes in the team and that we normally resolve this by buying another goalkeeper!

Absolute minimum required in Jan window is a central midfielder and a right back, closely followed by a left back, a centre half and a striker.

A couple of injuries in key areas followed by a bad run could lead to a downward spiral with no way left of filling the holes.

I think you are living in Cuckoo land, what you are suggesting is about 100m, that isn't going to happen, there will be a lot of wage money available in the summer, sensible to wait instead of panic buying for no reason.

My interpretation of Steve Parish's comments was that the January 'Window' would see somewhat limited transfer activity with the significant activity in the summer.
By then of course we could be in the Championship.

So a midfielder and a full back is going to cost £100m? I think you are the one living in cuckoo land. How about 2 loans? Ps lay off the booze a bit I’m sure you’ll enjoy the day more.

You commented on 5 new players, not two, i am glad Parish is in charge instead of a nincompoop.

I assume the difference in cost refers to your shopping list that also included a left back, a centre half and a striker. Maybe we could chuck in a partridge in a pear tree as well.

Hardly an "interpretation" as those were his actual words.

Hopefully Mr Vieira can persuade him that the squad desperately needs strengthening which is what he has been quoted as saying

I viewed the interview whilst being in some discomfort with backache accordingly my concentration level was not at its peak.

Results of course could determine the level of transfer activity as could key players being unavailable through injury.

I was reading a bit this morning that Pep is looking for a club to take on Kalvin Phillips for a loan to re-ignite his career , would be a good one for Palace .
