Why do Croydon Council consider themselves to be experts on architectural design. We will get a stadium designed by committee. Yeah right. We should've presented a slide show of all the Croydon eyesores given planning permission. Would probably have taken too long though. Maybe provide a POV Point of View walk down Whitehorse road all the way to Selhurst, or from Thornton Heath station or from the old Port Manor through South Norwood. We could then see if this new stand would taint or damage the appearance of the area. Edited by Rudi Hedman (16 Feb 2018 7.37pm)

That's not much different from what I said. I did not mean council house stock I meant houses within that council's juridiction - no need for the FFS.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave I just commented and registered. Oddly, since they require a UK postcode, I used my present address with the postcode for my address in Streatham and it went through. My supporting comments follow: I am a former senior steward at Selhurst Park, 1990 to 1992, while residing at 11 Ashlake Road, Flat 1, Streatham, London SW16 2BB. The present Main Stand at Selhurst Park was built in 1924 and constitutes a safety hazard. This is because roughly one half of the structure is wooden and therefore a fire hazard. In fact, there was a small fire there during my time as a steward in the Programme Office. While many of the factors that lead to loss of life at Bradford City's ground, Valley Parade, in 1984 no longer exist, the possibility of such a calamity cannot be ignored. Therefore, the re-construction of this structure is necessary. The plans submitted by Crystal Palace Football Club, the owner of the stadium, contain the vision to provide the Croydon Community with a structure that benefits all. Supporters will be housed in a spacious, comfortable and safe environment. The community will benefit from a far safer structure as well as community activities the club plans to offer using said structure. The Council and Borough benefit as well. While the loss of housing stock is never wanted, this plan provides for a one build for every one demolished in accordance with the law. Access to and from the ground will also be improved which will result in a safer and less intrusive match day experience. Therefore, although I do not reside in Croydon, I urge the Croydon Borough Council to approve the planning submission made by Crystal Palace F.C. to rebuild the Main Stand of Selhurst Park Stadium as submitted in Reference Number 18/00547/FUL. thank you.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave I used my Irish postcode (eircode) and it was fine. I commented that Palace are the reason I visit the local area several times a year and that if the council wanted to maintain visiting income they should help, rather than hinder, Palace's redevelopment plans. I also had a dig at them about whether they truly wanted a Premier League team in the locale or not.

Good point I wonder if anyone has done a report on how much income the club draws into the area from fans.

The point you made about having a Premier League club in the borough is excellent. It goes right to the heart of the heart of the economic matter. The club brings in a great deal of tax revenue into the Borough.
