It looks like someone at the Mirror has been reading the Hodgson out thread on here.

I would counter that by saying that what the anti Roy faction fail to grasp is that his tactics and methods are tried and trusted. And that is why he continues to use them.

Put yourself in his shoes. You are given the overriding objective of keeping the club in the Premier League. The way you manage has achieved this successfully for the last 3 years. It shows every sign of it being successful again. ( a quick look at the table shows we are level on points with Wolves - who play attractive football and have also spent a fortune, and just 1 point behind Arsenal and Leeds ). Would you be open to change ?

I don't think any of my fellow Pro Roy supporters would claim that the football has been exciting or attractive. Just effective.

Like someone said a while back. Roy could take a 20th place team and take them to 15th, or a 10th place team and take them to 15th... but only for a couple of seasons.

Eventually the players get fatigued of Roy's methods the club he's in charge of run out of steam, that's happened already. I don't think its a disrespectful observation of Roy, most managers only last a couple of years before things need to be freshened up.

We have Roy's best ever squad. His words. We should be looking at a bit more than just getting by, otherwise we will stagnate, and stagnation is death at this level. Very few managers each generation can manage to keep things progressing for longer.

We picked up 35 points in 2020 and we are declining.

If this is true, then in my opinion what a waste of time for the last 3 and a half years. How can a club have no plans to move forward and build for the future in such a long period of time?

In terms of the club having no money too, I agree we aren't at the level to splash like the top clubs, or even like Wolves or Leeds have, but we arent so poor that all we can afford is £10mill net spend over the last few years (according to someone else who said that). Prize money each year, ad revenue means we can afford more. We just don't get told what's happening behind the scenes either. So nobody knows why we are sitting and just waiting for time to pass.

I would suggest that the upgrading of the Academy is evidence of a desire to move forward as are the (albeit frustratingly slow to come to fruition) plans for a rebuild of the Main stand.

With a net spend (apparently) of about £10m over 3 years there's little chance of our being able to strengthen the squad from outside unless the owners are prepared to bankroll some serious spending and I don't see that happening. It is most unlikely to happen whilst Roy is still here because he's shown he can keep the club up with minimal spending (minimal in PL terms). I doubt a new manager will get that much to spend.

It may well be a case of hoping the Academy will produce a few gems before the threat of relegation hits us.

I don't really disagree with your thoughts, but I ask you again, where is the motivation for Roy to change ? Honestly now - what would you do if you were him ?

Agreed - lazy journalism at it's best. At least get the facts right - the Newcastle defeat was at home...and was the defeat to Burnley really '' shocking '' ?? - not to us it wasn't !

I don't think you can make the statement about the £10m spend and then state that we don't get told what's happening behind the scenes. It's true that we don't but you can't assume that we could have afforded to spend more.

What we do know is the expenditure on the Academy. We also know that our wage bill v. income ratio is unsustainable. We also know that our revenue is hamstrung by the outdated facilities at Selhurst Park.

I think that is a more likely scenario pre the signing of Eze. Parish used to think in terms of spending ' cycles '. If he still does I think we need to hope we are in one now.

I'd retire. Even Fergie had retried by his age. I'd hope to be retired a long time before that. Maybe go out and pursue other passions, travel the world, spend time with grandkids?

£4.5m a year is a lot of money, but when you are already a multimillionaire surely there's better stuff you can do with your time than go to a freezing cold training ground in Beckenham every day. He can't take it with him and only has one child to give it to. Surely, you get to a point when you don't need the money anymore. Maybe Mrs Roy wants a Sunseaker?

Given he's in the twilight of his career. Why's he satisfied with such a low level of ambition. Friday night may have been his last opportunity to win a major trophy and we didn't even chase the game.

He had one season to prove a point after his England failure. Now, I cant really see what would motivate him. He's done this all before and isn't going to try anything new. He has got a track record of being stubborn though.

What would you do if you were a 73 year old multimillionaire who'd already had a long career?

Have you ever considered that it’s not about the money and that he just loves football ?

TBF, id snap your hand off if this was the case.

Prem status secured, golden gloves for Guiata, 10th-12th finish, oh, downside being a 2yr contract for RH.

Thankfully, we all know that aint never gonna happen

Speroni, Ward, Mariappa, Dann, Bolasie, Dikgacoi, Puncheon, Jedinak, Delaney, Gabbidon, Moxey, Ledley, Chamakh, Bannan, Jerome.

These were the players that Pulis attained a 11th place finish with. No Zaha, Cabaye, Benteke, Townsend etc etc.
Hodgson inherited a decent squad, including later signings Sahko, Milivojevic, Schlupp, Van Aanholt, Riedewald. Let's add a few of his own signings: Kouyate, Ayew, Cahill. Notable mention also for Eze and the timely coming good of Wan Bissaka and Mitchell. How is it that he hasn't been able to better Pulis's finish with a squad he says is his best?
