It’s hard for me to explain it, not being a black man. You clearly feel you can with some confidence for some reason. But as an objective and knowledge curious individual, I’ve read and watched volumes on history of all shades, and the more you learn the more you understand. It’s also not just the slave trade FFS. Do some reading. Talk to some people in that community and understand more. Then you’ll understand the level of deep running feeling and passion behind events like this. If there wasn’t, a lot of this simply would not be happening. People that just pick one narrative, stop reading, being open and stick with it infuriate me. Living in the suburban skaterham bubble doesn’t fill me with confidence that you’re not one of those individuals. What a load of rubbish. If you’re on the straight and narrow and get your head down then things happen for you. You will probably hit barriers and glass ceilings and come into contact with unconscious bias but you’re implying the country is against you from the moment you’re born because you’re black. That’s simply bollox. And caterham. There’s now lots of black or brown people up here exercising which is fine, because they’re not the disrespectful young black people who are the real problem. They have the right frame of mind or discipline. I’ve had two random incidents of black men having a go for no reason a year or two ago. One was in south croydon because he thought I parked somewhere.... in an actual space when I didn’t. I didn’t have a clue what he was on about and just laughed. He came out when he saw me go to another car and apologised. If it wasn’t for knife crime I’d have told him to do one. Another bloke who thought I had a problem with him on a petrol Station forecourt for some unknown reason. Huge bloke. Don’t know his problem. Paranoid. This was in old Coulsdon. I doubt he does this to people of equal size or bigger. You don’t get this with all black people because they will have better things to focus on but there’s no doubt a lot who are like a coiled spring ready for anything, sometimes from nothing at all. This does nothing to improve people’s opinions. Good parents drill this out of kids. And this privilege bollox does nothing to help the mindset of these kids who think the world is against them. You could use advantaged. Privileged? Seriously bad brainwashing on impressionable young people. Edited by Rudi Hedman (13 Jun 2020 11.59pm)

So what’s the statute of limitations on grievance? There must come a time when taking responsibility for your your own life becomes an option. Limitations on grievance occur when discrimination ends. I’d think there are plenty of black people who ‘take responsibility’ for their own lives but still feel passionately about this subject. And again rather obviously it’s not just about slavery, that’s one aspect of it Pretty ironic that the same people worried about ‘erasing history’ are now effectively saying ignore it. Classic

Edited by Rudi Hedman (13 Jun 2020 11.59pm) If you’re on the straight and narrow and don’t cause any trouble, ignore any incidence of racial prejudice or, frankly, any prejudice - you could be taking about anyone here - just toe the line, comply and don’t complain. What an inspiring piece of advice - just do what others say you should do and you might have an average life. Cheers. Like the sort of advice you’d get from a corporate drone. Don’t cause any trouble ere Jim. We do things one way and one way only. If you do em well, you might get an extra bean a day. But we ain’t got any time here for newfangled ideas, innovation or creativity. Just do your job well, don’t ask questions about your past and you might do OK in life. f*** ME Also this - ‘ If you’re on the straight and narrow and get your head down then things happen for you. You will probably hit barriers and glass ceilings and come into contact with unconscious bias but you’re implying the country is against you from the moment you’re born because you’re black.’ is completely contradictory. You’re actually disagreeing and agreeing with yourself in one sentence. Incredible feat

There may be a correlation between opportunities available to people, housing class and propensity towards criminality I take it you’ve never seen or heard the gang members say why would they go and get (start a career maybe) a job earning £1,400 a month when they can sell drugs and make £500 in a couple of hours. I accept there’s glass ceilings and unconscious bias but this lack of, or no opportunities, is rubbish, just like oppression and some of the other cr&p I’ve heard. Maybe the disruption at school and parents or absent fathers might be part of the problem. You never know. I’ve heard absent fathers is other people’s fault it’s held people back. Really?

There’s hope everywhere. People, and especially the media, rather obviously just choose to focus on the extremes. Good news isn’t news True, not focusing on the negative involves self reflection and commonality rather than finger pointing. It's easier for people to think everything is wrong and that by some amazing coincidence it's all somebody else's fault. Elements at polar opposites of the political spectrum have much more in common with each other on that count than they do the typical man on the street. Edited by BlueJay (14 Jun 2020 12.19am)

Just saw this - in fairness I’d reckon he’s probably pissed or smacked out of his mind and had no idea what he was doing Not justifying it - but I’d be amazed if it was in any way intentional

You’re actually disagreeing and agreeing with yourself in one sentence. Incredible feat I’m actually all for correcting glass ceilings, and FWIW, the black people I’ve heard who experience glass ceilings say they happen more in late 20’s to early 30’s. I don’t quite understand what you’re implying at the beginning. Knuckling down and being on the straight and narrow is for or shouldn’t be for young black people? What on earth are you on about or suggesting? There’s a different path or system for one race? Life is pretty simple. You go to school, you go to work, you procreate and die. You might travel or have a very good social life. Not sure what you’re suggesting should be expected. Life of a footballer? Everyone mess about for years deluding themselves they’ll earn millions as rap artist, only to find job opportunities are not what they could have been. Everyone’s life is pretty mundane apart from a few. You seem to think otherwise.
