If a riot is active, and others planned, do you seriously expect the police not to intervene? They don’t have unlimited resources so it’s inevitable that less urgent things must be delayed. No, not all protests are motivated by malign outside influences. Some are, especially the organised peaceful ones are motivated by genuine concerns. We are not though talking about protests. We are talking about riots. Riots engineered and encouraged by influencers on social media. Southport had nothing to do with them, other than that it was the excuse used. I stand by the claim that any further discussion on the original event is both disrespectful to those involved and grieving and without relevance to the rioting. I wasn't referring to policing the riots but grooming cases which continued because it was claimed the police couldn't get involved.

Any meme posted by Elon Musk that receives an immediate comment from Andrew Tate should raise red flags. These guys are among those who influenced the stupidly of the past week. Showing any kind of support for either raises questions about those providing it. Although I suspect we already know the answers.

There is already a thread on this subject which has been debated in circles for years. There’s no point in going round again. You post there if you feel it is necessary, I don’t and won’t. The rioting is current. There isn’t another thread. Discussing the outcomes of current events is very much pertinent. It informs why they need to stop and why they were stupid to start in the first place.

I really cannot be ars*d but you can always prove me wrong. This was the comment that started this exchange:- “You should condemn that judge for using colour in the summing up but you don’t. The grooming gangs are “just criminals” you said. Colour and religion do not matter you said. Watch these anti whatever marches get more violent than the anti immigration ones because the only target will be the plod. This is self inflicted by slimer for not being honest right at the start.” I don’t see a question there. …

The point being that previously your advice has been to wait for the enquiry. But not this time when the Olympic conclusion jumping record has been sm My previous “advice” referred to a lengthy pandemic which had dissipated after causing significant problems. Holding a subsequent detailed enquiry to learn the lessons rather than come to your own conclusions makes sense. The enquiry is about how we can respond more effectively. Not whether we needed to respond. The virus existed and was spreading. It needed to be managed. The enquiry didn’t change the basic facts that demanded immediate responses by government. Holding a later enquiry in this case may well teach lessons about how we ought to respond to rioting and I welcome that. It doesn’t though mean, as with the pandemic, a response wasn’t needed. When faced with disorder, order must be restored. Whatever the motivations of individual rioters might be, no behaviour of that kind can be defended or tolerated. Nor can the activities of social media influencers known to be posting inflammatory comments be ignored. Like the virus the riots existed. Like the virus we know how they were spread. Like the virus we knew they must be contained. As I have said several times the title of this thread is now inappropriate but it’s the only place these issues are being discussed. I am making predictions made on solid evidence. I have spoken to colleagues of my wife who are now little short of terrified, trying to resssure them. Do you think that’s not already an outcome? I think it’s awful. A blot on our national character which makes me feel ashamed.

If figures were made available, it might be interesting to compare amounts of monies provided to people on small boats, in the form of accommodation, food, benefits and legal advice , to ex-workers in Port Talbot. A town where the sole major industry was allowed to shut down, leaving workers (and their families), supporting industries and commerce, and the social infrastructure totally devastated. What assistance are the many (tens of) thousands of white working class UK citizens getting ?
