Didn't know he had such clout? Well done P, as we understand that you are responsible for making our climate cleaner. Keep it up !! .

You have to be an absolute disaster as a minister in the conservative party to get advanced. Just look at these:- May - Home Secretary Johnson - Foreign Secretary Grayling - don't even go there Rudd - Windrush Could go on, personally I wouldn't have the audacity to continue if I had been crap. But to the tories it is just a badge of honour.

Mine is that he has been badly misrepresented but that is beside the current point. Of course I don't want to remain at any cost. I do want to remain in the current situation and for the foreseeable future. If you find my logic boring then you are not compelled to read it. Describing anything as "deluded" is the mark of someone who, having run out of arguments, resorts to insults. This is normally a reliable indicator that they have lost the argument. What often follows are threats to take direct action if they don't get their own way. It is noticeable that those in the strident anti-EU group are beginning to issue such threats, now that they are perceiving their argument as lost. As no political argument is ever lost for ever surely you need to regroup, try to persuade, and prepare to fight the next battle. There is always another time. Try to elect MPs that you approve of. Good luck with that. UKIP haven't yet captured the public imagination but might well have some defectors from the Tory right holding their flag soon.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

Everything he has done post resignation has been self serving, to make as much money as possible (nothing wrong with that I suppose), he has been hand in hand with some corrupt regimes, so probably not badly represented. We best not go into his involvement in the "weapons of mass destruction" debacle. Personally think his only representation should have been at the Hague, sorry for going of thread a bit.

I personally want MORE referenda. I think they are fantastic, transfers responsibility to an electorate that do not live on 4-year election cycles, and frankly would bring a more consensual politics to the table. I say this as someone with close Swiss friends (on both sides of the spectrum), through discussion on how they reach their decisions. I would say the electorate are as a result a lot more educated on the issues, and a lot less tribal. I think we can all agree that is better than what we have. That is no "rebuttal" at all. It is a recycling of all the worn out arguments of those unable to see that things have changed since 2016, and that we need to react to the changes and not just ignore them. We don't live in Switzerland. Deciding some local issues by holding a plebiscite can bring engagement and make sense. Determining complex issues which affect future generations should not be left to the winds of chance, or be capable of influence from those with different agendas. We employ experts to take those decisions. That we need to improve the quality of those experts is doubtless true but we must not abandon the system.

Nowadays, modern diesels are not the issue but those who drive clapped out old cars. After all if you want a Land Rover don't want the extra torque? As for Jaguar, until May's announcement sales were growing, when I look around I see loads of F-pace SUVs and XFs, but now all car sales are falling. Edited by pefwin (18 Jan 2019 10.54am) Completely off topic, but it does amuse me how many people bought diesel cars during that time. Even more amusing is seeing people who clearly think they're driving a performance car (sport trim, 2 years old, leather, lowered etc. etc.) then I see the 'D' on the back of it and chuckle. It's a truck mate. You've been had
