Looks like my prediction is coming true sooner than I thought.

Labour will get their own 'Reform'....mainstream parties are treating their base so poorly that it's kind of inevitable.

I can see why some convinced hard left wingers would support a party led by Corbyn and why a comparison with Farage on the right has some validity.

He is though 75 years old, whilst Farage is 60. Reform, as the latest incarnation of UKIP and the Brexit Party, have a base and donors. Corbyn has experience but anything like this will take time, which he doesn’t have.

Such parties are personality driven and without them either would struggle.

What impact could such a party have? Take a share of Labour votes, but next to no seats? Just as Reform did to the Tories! Eventually, if it got backing, but I don’t see where that’s going to come from, in any really meaningful way. By which time Corbyn would be in his dotage and we know how popular politicians over 80 can be!

So I don’t see this as a serious threat to Labour. If I am wrong it would only help the Tories.

Reasonable analysis....Never know, could end up being right.

I tend not to think so though...if it weren't Corbyn there's Galloway.

However, it's certainly true that a lot of Reform's strength is wrapped up in Farage and personality....It happened with Blair, it happened with Johnson....people vote for personalities.

There does seem to be a lack of popular new characters emerging from any side of the political fence.

They seem to suck the personality out of new politicians.

It doesn't matter if it 'helps' the Tories or not....Frankly I think whoever is in power will be one term governments for some election cycles because of economics. People aren't voting 'for' parties, they are voting against a declined standard of living.......But it's literally not the point. The point is choice for actual ideologies that people want to vote for.....Not a uniparty with minimal differences.

We may be seeing in the King's speech the introduction of automatic voter registration, adding millions to the register, also the reduction in the voting age to 16 promised in the labour manifesto.

There have also been discussions about a population-based boundary review, to redraw constituency boundaries to reflect their total populations rather than the number of registered voters who live there.

The labour majority would have been substantially increased at the 2024 election with these in place.

So lefties Gerrymandering to fix the next election.

Hardly a surprise from the most loathsome bunch ever to be in office.
Lowering the voting age would also be shameful. Relying on dopy, ideologically naive students to keep you in power?

Enjoy your 5 years.

Although I did hear a report on the wireless a few days ago that the dopey 16-17 year olds are not gimmee left wing. Many are right wing. It’s the 20 somethings who are the lefties. How true I don’t know but it doesn’t necessarily add to labours voter base. Many other countries allow these ages to vote now.

Giving 16 year olds the vote makes perfect sense. Many of them care deeply about the issues that will impact their future and letting them engage politically encourages them to believe in the political system as the way to improve things. Better that than just protesting.

Are they the most loathsome bunch ever to be in office? A bit too early for such a sweeping statement. Especially when there are some serious competitors, some of them very recent.

Including Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man. There isn't a huge number of countries, a few in South America plus Austria and Malta.

Many boys are, not girls. I'm sure the majority would still be on the Left.
I'd raise the voting age to 21.

That low?

I thought those on the right would restrict it to at least those over 50 and cut it off again at 75 when everyone has dementia. Then remove anyone without genes that can be traced back at least 2000 years, those with any tendency towards being part of the LGBT community, or have any tolerance of them, anyone holding religious views you don’t like and any woman who doesn’t accept being servile.

No need then to actually hold elections. The 4 of you can drive up to Westminster every day and tell us all what to do.

Glad to see that you’d still want to be told what to do…

You think the Tories will get it together enough to win the next election? Not a chance...
