What puzzles me is why Trump is doing this. It's obviously not going to work and will just delay the preparations for a smooth transfer of power. The idea that it's to "protect democracy" won't fool anyone other than those who have swallowed his bs for the last few years and are beyond hope. The rest of us know he doesn't do anything unless it's in his personal best interest. So how can chasing a lost cause be in his best interests? He has a brand to protect. He has a dynasty, which with careful handling could rise again in the coming years. There is even talk of him standing as an independent in 2024. By acting in this way he is throwing it all away. His legacy will forever be tainted by this behaviour. For me, and many others, it was already tainted but this will damage him beyond repair with many who were on the fence about him. He is acting like a desperate man. For me he has done so ever since the pandemic struck and he realised the impact it would have on his re-election chances. In seeking to ignore it and keep the economy as his priority he has cost many lives, in the hope it would be enough to save him. So why is he so desperate? We know he is a flawed character who cannot accept losing, but there are ways of losing battles without losing wars. I believe there are indictments waiting to be served on him and his family immediately after he loses office. Maybe even at Biden's inauguration. Maybe the knowledge of that and the prospect of jail is what is driving this. We'll see.
I would've thought it was pretty obvious why he's doing it. Being President immunized him from jailtime or bankruptcy. People seem to forget what the Muller report actually said. It said that while there was insufficient evidence to impeach, Russia had systematically attempted to influence the election, that Trumps family had connections to key Russian officials and were on record as accepting their involvement. If he hadn't been President that would almost certainly have meant jail. And he has spent the past 4 years using his position to further his business interests. G7 meetings at Trump golf resorts. New Trump towers in the Middle East and China. He's not an idiot. He knows if he loses this it hits his bottom line and potentially incriminate his family. That's why he's so desperate.

There’s talk of Trump needing to be a gracious loser. What about anti-Trumpers being gracious winners? Your man won, you can enjoy it without revelling in the downfall of another. From all I can see they are being very patient. The time to be gracious is when a concession has been made and not whilst the win is being denied. I have little doubt that Biden and his team will do their best to be gracious so as to encourage maximum co-operation, if not from Trump himself but from his team. It's in all their interests.

Fearing jail is what I was suggesting. He must know he is going to lose. His family must know. Now must be the time for damage limitation and what I cannot understand is how this prevarication will limit the damage? For me it increases it. Who will want to deal with him now? Not only does it make him look like the loser he so despises it makes the children look like bumbling idiots, without the ability to speak for themselves.

I agree, I can't imagine that the likes of Biden hold any real affinity for antifa or the like. So much of politics left and right really, is a box ticking exercise and keeping people onside until you have their vote then business as usual after.

There are a number of potential prosecutions that can be brought against trump but I would be amazed if they were. He could pardon himself as his last act. Never been done uncertain legality. The crimes are white collar and complex/murky and prosecutors should be unlikely to proceed unless they have a slam dunk case. Very recent history shows that prosecuting this slippery well funded eel is far from easy. However my guess is that Biden will do all he can to stop a prosecution up to issuing an executive pardon. The US has endured 4 years of polarising damage engineered by trump to keep power. The task of healing will not be served by placing that shaved orang tan in the witness box and allowing him to be a unifying martyr for populist right wing conspiracy nut causes. A pardon would be the most humiliating for trump. It would affirm his crimes without giving him any platform and would demonstrate largessse and forgiveness by the Democrats. One would hope this would cause trump to vanish as quietly as is possible with that man and hopefully nip his attempt at creating a trump dynasty in the bud.
