Don’t need aNI number working in the black economy and many GOs will treat people without asking if they are entitled to NHS treatment

I remember back when Labour were in power, there was a phone in about over crowding in doctors surgeries and I think Peterborough was the area of the topic. Anyway, the government representative in the studio provided the figure for the number of asylum seekers that were housed in the area. Trouble is a doctor from the area phoned in to say that he had more than that on his books alone, and he obviously he wasn’t the only surgery in the area. Apparently the discrepancy must be down to a timing issue of the data…
hats off to palace, they were always gonna be louder, and hate to say it but they were impressive ALL bouncing and singing. |

I was working as a visa officer abroad at this time, it was most certainly implemented, whether it was official or not. I cannot go into details suffice to say, requirements to obtain visas were so were somewhat relaxed. So not a Mail hatchet job, whether you like the thought of it or not I have always respected your personal knowledge of the way the visa system has been implemented and am not surprised to learn that rules were relaxed, given the overload and backlog. That though, from my perspective, doesn’t mean the Mail didn’t exploit the situation to promote an agenda.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

The point though is that you cannot hope to hide for ever. Eventually, and often quite soon, you come against a situation in which your identity is going to be revealed.

So even though it wasn't a "hatchet job" and the content was implemented the Mail are the still guilty party.

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry. |

The Mail was using a right wing think tank’s FOI request and then suggested that because paragraphs had been removed from a draft there was some kind of sinister manipulation going on. So although the implemented practice might be as described the reason why hasn’t been accurately reported. The Mail is a tabloid rag pretending to be a newspaper.

"The huge increases in migrants over the last decade were partly due to a politically motivated attempt by ministers to radically change the country and "rub the Right's nose in diversity", according to Andrew Neather, a former adviser to Tony Blair, Jack Straw and David Blunkett. He said Labour's relaxation of controls was a deliberate plan to "open up the UK to mass migration" but that ministers were nervous and reluctant to discuss such a move publicly for fear it would alienate its "core working class vote". As a result, the public argument for immigration concentrated instead on the economic benefits and need for more migrants. Critics said the revelations showed a "conspiracy" within Government to impose mass immigration for "cynical" political reasons."

Critics said the revelations showed a "conspiracy" within Government to impose mass immigration for "cynical" political reasons." This old Chesnut again! He didn't actually say that did he? Neather stated that his words had been twisted: "The main goal was to allow in more migrant workers at a point when—hard as it is to imagine now—the booming economy was running up against skills shortages. Somehow this has become distorted by excitable Right-wing newspaper columnists into being a "plot" to make Britain multicultural. There was no plot". In other words the Telegraph were doing pretty much the same as the Mail. Winding up the right! That it seems to have succeeded doesn't make it true.
