If I don't know something, and haven't had the time to find out, I say so. Most times I have the time to find out. I am 77 and although pretty active I do need to have a sit down every couple of hours. I know how to research, am quick at doing it and a fast learner with a thirst for knowledge. So if something interests me, I find out about it.

BBC DG is calling for a public consultation on the future of the licence fee. I am fine with that as long as it's a proper consultation and not just a PR exercise for luvvies to tell us how great the Beeb is. I guess you would call this a populist move by the BBC as they don't like the idea of their fate being left with Parliament.

What a surprise. There are always a few outliers with different opinions. They exist in most situations. Nothing new there. Data can be interpreted in a variety of ways. Lies, damn lies and statistics! It's though the majority view which prevails, after listening to all. That a right wing broadcaster promotes such an outlier, whilst others don't, is also hardly new. Nothing to see here, beyond the reinforcing of prejudice. How do you know this individual is an outlier? Have you done a survey? Edited by Pembroke (27 Jan 2022 10.17am)

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

I don't think so. I think it has opened up a debate which might otherwise not have happened. So long as the journalist was genuinely reporting what they heard, and there is no reason to doubt that, then speculating what the implications may, or may not, be, is perfectly reasonable. Not leaving any stone unturned is good journalism. In my opinion. Hmm It seems that the BBC was wrong it's own standard process has confirmed this and now OFCOM will investigate further. I said at the time shoddy journalism and nothing has changed my opinion. I would have included the BBC's version but that has disappeared from the main news and I can't be bothered to find where they have buried it.

If the BBC get fined they use the public's money, it should come from the executives who made the decision

Edited by Stirlingsays (27 Jan 2022 12.36pm) He isn't qualified in a related field. He was a nurse, who taught in a University after working in A & E. He is not qualified in immunology, research, data analysis or public health. If he was opining on how to manage triage effectively, or how best to teach student nurses then maybe he could claim some expertise. Although as he is now retired his knowledge is probably out of date. That's not criticism. It's stating facts.

If they suffer budget cuts what else can they do? Sacking Gary Lineker won't make a lot of difference!
