Jordan, the UAE and Saudi, warn against an Israeli offensive on Rafah and calls for a UN Security Council meeting. The Washington Street Journal reports that if Israel mounts a ground invasion into Rafah in the Gaza Strip, Egypt will consider pulling out of the 1978 Egyptian-Israeli peace deal, the Camp David Accords. Personally I'm suspicious....and this is completely just my own take....that this is partly a sign of the Biden administration's attempt to distance itself from what is coming because aside from Saudi these countries receive US kickbacks for remaining good boys. Personally I think that they would have cleared it with the US administration beforehand if they were going to come out with strong statements. It's not going to work of course.

I think you may be onto something stirlingsays. Israel has taken no notice of the USA, so why not loosen the shackles on Israel's hostile neighbours ? That might do the job.

I'm hearing that the US are preparing to pull out of Iraq and Syria over the next 90 days. That might be in recognition of what's to come in Gaza making a US presence untenable there. America's greatest ally apparently.....though apart from their wealthy ethnic donors funding their politicians I'm not seeing what America gets exactly other than huge problems. I am no expert on this, nor do I have any knowledge about the event but my gut tells me that this may be an attempt by Hamas to do damage to Israel in the knowledge that Israel will ‘overreact’ and decimate their attackers. Whatever is left of Hamas can then sit back and watch as the world condemns Israel and carries out sanctions against it, thereby swinging opinion further against Israel. Israel has never held back on retribution;,Entebbe, Iran’s nuclear capabilities etc. and I see this event being no different. This isn’t going to end well for anybody. This is what I said back in early October. The condemnation by allies has started, the opinion against Israel is getting more solid each day. Sanctions in the future?
hats off to palace, they were always gonna be louder, and hate to say it but they were impressive ALL bouncing and singing. |

When you say Sanctions,..do you mean anything worthwhile, like arms ? money , and stuff ? Because I think IF any sanctions are used, it will be pure powder puff stuff.

Each country will decide but it will only be when Israel’s allies start doing so that it will have any effect; probably more symbolic rather than effectual. Freezing of overseas assets of individuals close to the destruction? Maybe on a temporary basis. Arms? Only when the war is won. Funding? Doubtful, due to massive Jewish bases of population in western countries. We will see.

perhaps an embargo on dates an olives. But seeing how successful Russian sanctions have been at damaging our own economies, I can see the USA and UK hesitating till the last moment

Maybe people in high places take a more pragmatic view. For example, we effectively saved those of the Jewish faith from virtual extinction by allowing some of them to settle in the West and by defeating Hitler. Following that, we allowed them to settle in what is now Israel. All things you could describe as humanitarian, and this is where it has brought us. Now we are faced with terrible suffering and loss of life on both sides of the current clusterfuXk with the formerly oppressed now seemingly the oppressors. Helping the Jews was clearly the right thing to do morally, as would be trying to save Palestinian children, but what will be the ultimate result if we stop Israel from achieving their obvious objectives either by persuasion or simply by removing support? Will it just lead to more decades of fighting? What if we continue to support Israel?
