Being bored at home and trawling the internet to pass the time, I came across this article about Coronavirus in Cornwall.(note it was written before the lockdown) None of the comments were mine. There are idiots everywhere and any reporter wishing to spin a story won't have to look too far to find them. The fact is that most of the criticism was aimed at the owners of holiday parks who were actively encouraging people to travel here immediately after the "lockdown" instructions were given. At best they misunderstood the instructions. At worst they were profiteering. Then people who arrived were behaving as though they were on holiday. Something I witnessed myself. I saw a large group of teenage boys on their way to a beach to play football. None exercising social distancing and all totally oblivious to others. The fact is that we only have one major hospital here, the Royal Cornwall in Truro, and it is often already over stretched. Of course it handles a large summer influx of visitors with minor injuries etc but is not able to cope with the demands that might result from a sudden significant increase in residents and this pandemic. So I guess that's why the message to stay at home and avoid non essential travel was reinforced and people discouraged from travelling to their "second" homes or renting accomodation. It's all quietened down now. Whether folk have returned home I don't know. Everything other than the supermarkets are shut and people are just walking locally. It's also damn cold and windy. If I was stuck in a drafty, poorly heated static caravan on a misty cliff, with the shop, bars and entertainment closed, with a bunch of bored kids who cannot mix with others I might now be regretting my decision.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |
