"The managers' thinking". Two matches. WH as incumbent played in one and JS in another. Competition of places only really has a point if you change personnel occasionally. JS has every right to play a league game or two. On Saturday very few would place money on CP getting a point. So why not play JS then? Not exactly a massive gamble......... and who knows. As far as age is concerned Seaman, Shilton and others still played top flight football at JS's age! With the greatest respect to Speroni he isn't in that class.

Always remembering walking from the Holmesdale to the Whitehorse end at half time! |

Just speculating that the advancement of years can bring about a degradation in performance, especially reflexes and mobility which are key qualities required by keepers. Managers at clubs are better placed to form such judgements based on what they witness at the training ground.

Hodgson picked Schwarzer when he was 37/38 at Fulham. And for the record I think Speroni is a much better keeper than Hennessy. Hennessy with his attributes on paper should be far superior but it just doesn't seem to work.

I wonder what took people so long??? So we play JS in a cup game in which we play a newly promoted side who like us make wholesale changes from the last league match. An overweight overpaid second string striker scores for us, we win, we keep a clean sheet and it's like the second coming! They didn't score last night as firstly they did bot play their best team but equally because we played a decent central defensive pairing. JS did what was asked of him. WH would have done the same with I suspect the same result.

The current Speroni is not the same player.

I think he was always better than Hennessy, but that being on the bench for this long really won't have done his ability any good, its not so much that he's too old, but that his age and lack of regular experience at this level means he's likely a second place to Hennessey now. That said, he didn't conceded against Huddersfield...
