Take it from a seasoned Reformed Politician and charter member of Politicians Anonymous (a 24 step program). They were following a well rehearsed script. Don't take too much to heart at this stage. We're still in the preliminary qualifying rounds. The first round proper is a ways off. There will be a lot of sound and fury, usually indicating nothing. Let's hope so. I've read the BBS thread whose members have watched the meeting. Some of their points of concern get contradicted. Too much decoration/not enough decoration and more. One bit they have a bit of nerve for is mentioning what the club is going to do in renovating the area. The area the club has been in for nearly 100 years and virtually nothing done by the council apart from the Brit school, surrounded with litter and household appliances before we arrive about 25 times a year for a few hours. There's £4 mil on the way from the club for the area and these labour councillors are shrugging and questioning what are WE going to do. Hopefully it's just councillors trying to display the need for their employment. Interesting to find out what those who attend the meeting in the Clifton say. The Clifton that would've closed down if we weren't next door.

Just been watching the committee meeting on line. One Ward Councillor expressed concern as to the increase of traffic in CROYDON!! Doesn't stop them increasing businesses on Purley Way. I was not impressed with the council and it seems that they want to defer making a decision, they suggested the club had hurried their plans.... really! My wife (who is not a football fan) stated the club should tell them to f*** off, move away and leave the ground to rot. I must admit I tended to agree, if only it was that simple. Could you pop a link on here

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave In all honesty, we don't owe the council anything - if they are being hard work about it, upsticks and build else where - i know selhurst is our 'spiritual home' and all that, but - like star players, they come and go. If we can build a decent stadium in the hurt of south london, which is a large area, i am all for it. I always said that i liked the idea of the Ikea site, somehow incorporating the chimney.

In this day and age it is far easier said than done. Look at Wimbledon who just know after having to start all over again as a club. They're just now getting their new stadium underway after several false starts and delays. Brighton went through the trials of Hercules to get Falmer built. This is going to be a long, hard slog but it is doable if we keep our wits about us. Steve Parish and his partners are very meticulous and dot every i and cross every t, even if we sometimes feel they should move faster.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave Palace are rushing it if you listen to the Councillors, they are not convinced that the necessary detail is going to in the submissions, as Palace are saying they put in the appn in the next week, yet so much detail is still lacking If Palace rush it, it will take longer in the long run, as they will have to repeat the application process Fully understand why Palace want to hurry, council aren't against it per se, but we still have to follow due process not think we are big hitters who can steamroller an approval because it doesn''t work like that

There was a pre-meeting before this pre-meeting and it was noted that a whole variety of consultations were going on around travel plans and security and so on to inform the actual application. It sounded to me a bit like they just wanted more time to make demands about what they wanted from the plan that they might not get once the application is actually in e.g. us rebuilding thornton heath and selhurst to make them more lovely for people, providing something lovely for the community as part of the deal (not quite sure what) and rebuilding more houses than are actually needed to rehouse people. They also banged on about a master plan, that doesn't exist, for further ground extensions/rebuild that was based on something Steve said was an aspiration. There was also debate about people getting away from the ground after a match and clogging the roads. I've yet to go to a ground, whether new or old, where that does not happen (the Norwich supporting Chair would know full well that this was the case). We also got the political stuff about living wages for staff, which I thought the Palace chaps dealt with quite well. I wondered at this point whether the council has any outsourced services and if so how they control the living wage within those companies? Overall, it sounded to me that our consultants knew what they were doing and were confidant of providing the necessary information on time.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave To quote a line from the movie "Apollo 13," "We are step one. You are talking about step 45. We have a long way to go before we get to step 45." This proposal is now entering the wonderful world of political process. Don't get overly concerned with the small stuff. Land use is usually a rather long and drawn out process so patience is the order of the day. Too bad you don't have what we call in New York the Uniform Land Use Review Process, where projects such as this are put on a time table that starts at the Community Board level (each borough is divided into Community Board Service Districts), goes to the appropriate Borough Board (Manhattan, The Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens or Staten Island), then the City Planning Commission, the City Council and finally the Mayor. From start to finish, ULURP can take no longer than 90 to 120 days once the proposal is calendared. If a project impacts more than one community board, each impacted board has a public hearing and vote to recommend approval/disapproval. The Community and Borough Boards have advisory power only, they cannot accept or reject so the first real hurdle would be the City Planning Commission. The clock starts with the formal proposal being submitted and calendared by our planning authority, the CPC (see step 3). If a project affects a landmarked building or historic district, the Landmarks Preservationn Board is inserted before the CPC.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave This post has been merged from a topic called 'New Stadium Concern' by Penge Eagle This may sound utterly stupid of me, but after reading some of the thoughts on peoples views of the West Ham Stadium, does anyone fear that our new ground may potentially end up like theirs, regarding atmosphere etc?
