We were well worthy of the point and if we had taken all 3 Everton could not complain. You can see next season Decoure, Lerma and Wharton working well together. If we had our best 11 fit we would have thumped Everton….

Absolutely.

Well happy with a point. Sadly with players out injured our bench was so weak. After 60 minutes we were knackered and then Ayew scored :-) If we had a stronger bench we would have won that. Mateta looked done in just after half time. Perhaps an earlier change for him may have helped? Johnstone in my opinion flapped at the cross for their goal but other than that looked good. Onward to Saturday and a must win match :-)

Exactly. Who was left on the bench?
- Henderson
- Clyne
- Tomkins
- Riedewald
- Franca
- Umeh
- Raymond
We didn't have an attacking option to replace Edouard other than Franca and just the untried Raymond as an attacking option to replace the knackered Mateta. Under the circumstances that was a decent performance from our team. Definitely respect the point.

Nice post (although I quite like Ahamada in parts)

Can you imagine Palace starting a team including Ebs, MO, Johnstone, Andersen, Wharton, Munoz, Ayew, Guehi?

Blimey!

Amazing line up isn’t it, add to that Dacoure and our first 11 are a match for most teams.

Eze and Olise must be excited at the thought of linking up with Wharton!

I would've preferred Franca to replace Edouard, to be honest. There were times when we opened them up in midfield but missed the pace of someone to capitalise. I think Franca might've provided that.

Decent performance by Richards - definitely an improving player

Great point, but was a poor game.
Ward and Mitchell both had good games and I thought generally we looked solid, although with not a great threat from Everton.
Take the point and look forward to a win on Saturday.
Saw the new manager with Parrish and Bright. Not sure what he made of it all!!

I'd add Mateta to the list if he retains the form of 2024. He will assist lots of Eze and Olise goals if they ever all play together

I think most people thought this was a loss for us, so a great point (also keeping Everton to 1 point). Had so much going against us.

Wharton looked very good.

Ward played well, but for a few bad passes (decoure’s shot was inches away). He’s much better as a CB.

Mateta is a great hold up player / passer when he has it. Really impressed.

Johnstone is so much more composed in goal.

We must have been knackered, going for a draw and passing to the corner at 1-1.

Everton are a really big team that can head the ball well. Kind of scary on free kicks and corners. I know we let one in, but that’s our weakness.

Paddy did well.

Actually enjoyed that for a change and overall pleased with the point.

I thought Muñoz was superb as was Wharton, both are going to be great for us. The defence looked so much more settled with Johnstone in goal and i liked the back 3 formation (Ward played better in that system than as a right full back).

Ayew rounded off another superb performance with a beautiful goal and we were just unlucky to concede at the end (although defending set pieces does seem to be our achilles heel and I’m pretty sure Johnstone will be very upset he didn't get his fist to it).

Whilst Mitchell had a better game defensively…if only we could replicate Muñoz at left wing back.

3 points and another decent performance against Burnley on Saturday and it will have been a good week for us.

After taking the lead we just left a tired Mateta up front and then tried to play long ball's to him with no one else around. This just gave possession straight back to Everton and invited pressure on ourselves which we nearly rode out. As other's have alluded to the game has changed and you need 4 or 5 good players to be able to bring on from around the 60 minute mark who can make a difference. If Luton can do this then we should be up to it as well. Schlupp would have been a handy player to bring on but he also joined the injured list before the game. Our bench was very thread bare so let's hope that perhaps Eze and Guehi are on the improve.
Agree Ward seemed to get the defence better organised than we have had in recent games.

I would have subbed Mateta rather than Edouard, and I'd have brought França on.

Mateta puts everything in until he is totally spent and he was totally spent by the 60th minute whereupon everything kept coming back and their defence was unchallenged. Slip Edouard info the middle and get França on the left.

This (a ) would have said to the team that it needed to stay ambitious (we must never only be a punchbag) and (B ) have offered an energetic and pacy outlet.

Completely agree with this. It was the same against Chelsea when we took Franca off in as much as the only player who was carrying the ball up the pitch for us had gone so we then became the punchbag as you say. I think overall a draw was a fair result but they did have a few clear chances to score (DCL X 2, docoure back post mis kick, tarkowski taking header off onana in last minute etc) so could easily have gone the other way.
