Much better performance last night, thought our two new players played well and Franca looked good going forward but needs to improve his defensive side which he will only do by playing and I’m afraid learning on the job. Couldn’t blame Henderson for any of the goals last night. Positive is we looked more of a team last night and good to see that the team are still playing for the manager COYP

There were some positives to be taken from the game and had it ended 1-1 there would not have been too many arguments that the scoreline flattered our team.
The performances of Munoz,Franca and Wharton all suggested that they could well prove to be good purchases.

The fact remains however that we were beaten and have now conceded 14 goals in our last 4 games. Everton will prove a real test and a likely defeat at Goodison will mean we will only be 2 pts ahead of them with an inferior goal difference.
The number of goals we concede is a real cause for concern.

Not only the number but the timing. Every football supporter knows the crucial periods of the match are the first few minutes of each half where you must switch on quickly and the last 5 or 10 when you are trying to protect a score or chase a game. We do neither well.

It was a big mistake taking Hughes off for Ahamada. We would have been better bring Ozoh on which would have stiffened up the central midfield and would have been a more like for like replacement. Ahamada for Franca would have made more sense.

Hodgson said in the press conference that Hughes was injured .
They were hoping he’d run it off , but he wasn’t able to continue.
The worry with the goals being conceded is that it’s difficult to see that changing.
We clearly have a vulnerability there , which it makes it difficult to achieve results when we also don’t like scoring goals.

To an extent I felt that the game changed when Hughes tired and eventually needed to be substituted.
We missed his bite and Chelsea seemed to have more space to operate.
Roy made the attacking subs, which I and may others had been calling out for, and arguably it backfired as we looked more open.
Oh well….

I thought Hughes was at fault for the first goal. He didn’t get back in time to block Gallagher which gave home time to equalise? Didn’t also help that Mitchell didn’t get enough help from Franca?

Agree, Ahamada isn’t strong enough for a midfield slot. Substitutions cost us greatly last night :-(

I am so gutted. Really really gutted.

I thought the midfield worked there socks off tonight. But it means nothing if we throw it away like that.

I really didn’t understand taking hughes off, the 3 in the centre we’re doing a job protecting Anderson and Richard’s.

Franca grew into the game, but looked shattered about 10 minutes before he came off and thought he should have been replaced not hughes.

As for the keeper, my god he has no presence at all. How many more has he got to let in before we get Johnston back.

Gallagher can f*** off too… little ferret. I honestly wouldn’t want him back.

Really. You must be in a very small minority.

Exactly this. Fundamental flaws in our game that affect results. It's no good saying "although we had only 23% possession we kept them we quiet all first half", which is a negative way of playing the game in the first place... no, essentially basic errors and lack of concentration at crucial times is costing us dearly, and it's the same as it has been. One would have thought that the manager might have cottoned on to it by now.

Like I have said from day 1. Sick of pepole making excuses for the id fraud of a manager. He is the reason the players are going nowhere. If he cared about the club he would walk!!!

I've always thought Southampton fans were moronic.

Now I realise it's a wider problem down there

It should be noted, in addition to Henderson's woes, that Mitchell's side was targeted and resulted in two of their goals. The club has done well to have only one certified left back with no competition for places.

You've just managed an entire post without criticising Hodgson !

I must be honest and say that I predicted exactly what would happen in the second half.
I said we would concede an equaliser around the 50th minute and then lose it sometime after 80 minutes. That is more or less what happened. We are predictably vulnerable after taking the lead.

It was a better performance, but we need to remember how to defend.
It became clear as to why Roy has held Franca back, as he has a tendency to give the ball away in dangerous areas.

Hopefully we will better when Eze is back and Guehi replaces Richards.
