So many rumours at the moment. Is Dougie off to Newcastle? I sincerely hope not, I think he does a brilliant job at Palace.

This will test the bloke's loyalty to Palace.

Sellsy stated on the FYP podcast that it's not as clear cut as some media outlets would have us believe that Dougie is off. It probably serves to destabilise Palace for some rags out there. But if he is off then he has produced some real talent for us to watch before he leaves (I hope he doesn't and helps build us to even better things though).

This will test the bloke's loyalty to Palace. It took years, but I think most people here have now forgiven him for that move. This is a completely different situation. I'd hate to see him go too, but if Newcastle, with their war chest over the next few seasons, comes knocking and bumps his salary tremendously, I'd not begrudge Dougie for taking the job.

It does depend if Dougie has a similar contract as managers and players, nobody seems to know how he is tied down by Palace. Players get 3 - 5 year contracts for example, whats he on?

Looking at it from DF's perspective, sure the money and the profile of the job/club will be key factors. But what is likely to be massively appealing for someone in his role is a club with a global, top notch scouting network where he has a global playground to unearth gems, a more sophisticated scouting methodology and maybe much better data to work with. I'm not sure how we match up to clubs like Newcastle in these areas.

Well if he does decide to go, I hope he is on a decent length contract and we can threaten him and Newcastle with the gardening leave or a big transfer fee just like they have done with Ashworth and Man U

We don't need those bad vibes because it filters through. He and Parish are friends so there's no chance of that happening anyway even if a contract made it possible. This is different from what happened with Bolton, where he left us so soon after having promised to rebuild us. Now if he goes it will be sad but he's given a lot to the club and he'll leave with best wishes. He's a legend at the club, whether he stays or goes. Edited by Stirlingsays (13 May 2024 10.43pm)

Edited by Stirlingsays (13 May 2024 10.43pm) It might not look good but so what? Newcastle playing hardball with Ashworth is the same situation but it is not stopping Freedman from considering moving there Sure he's been a great asset to the club but so has Eze. There's no way we would let the latter go on a free to Newcastle just because he wanted to play for them. If Freedman has a contract running into the future and Newcastle want him enough they should cough up and not be hypocrites and take Palace for a soft touch. Apparantly, we have just told Bayern to do one regarding Glasner and Freedman is of similar importance to the club

I would say I think the comparison of Eze and Freedman would be a little off as Eze is worth in excess of sixty million and while Freedman is very good no club would ever spend serious money for a DoF. Contracts are a fair point and I expect whatever the terms of the contract it would be honoured fairly. Let's hope Freedman stays.
