Roy made it clear when Franca arrived that he wasn’t just going to walk into the team. Roy is old school and there’s a way of doing things. Bide your time, keep your nose clean, show respect for the Management team and established squad, learn your place etc etc. and THEN be given your wings. Personally I think when Franca has served his ‘time’ with Roy and gets his real chance in December he’ll prove to be an outstanding signing. Edited by XKudu (25 Nov 2023 6.51pm)

I thought the team were stuck in 2nd gear for most of the game. It seems nearly every game, the first half the team look half asleep. I blame Andersen for the 2nd.. but oh well. Luton are a dirty horrid team. I'd like to see ahameda get more time. Olise is class. The lack of urgency I think was what was the issue. I hope McCarthy gives them a bollocking if Roy can't.

We lost both games he played in I think. That certainly tells me he isn't ready for the PL. We need a good Cup run against quality opposition to blood inexperienced younger players. However, I doubt that will happen as by the FA Cup rounds we may be struggling to keep our heads above water in the league. Roy opted to stay on after last season when he could have bowed out at the top of his game. He must have been promised resources to take the team to the next level. Maybe a few well spent millions in January could make all the difference?

I don’t understand how we can all see that we are desperately in need of a right back and a striker yet the board purchase an injury prone keeper, a journey man defender and a complete gamble. The money spent would surely have been enough to get a decent right back and I can’t believe there was not another striker around. I get that Palace as a team and business entity have many limitations but so do Other clubs like Brentford, yet they appear to have a plan to move forwards. By now we should be a well established premier league team but we are always in the running as a favourite to go down at the start of the season. Why? Danny Murphy was saying that Roy needs to trust his players and that they must do the hard work tracking back, maybe that’s why he’s holding Franca back because as a striker he can’t possibly be worse then what we have at the moment. I love Palace, I’ve been watching them a long long time, I have no problem losing but it is so frustrating, we always seem to be on the verge of something but fail in the end. I know we are in a golden patch in terms of being in the top flight as long as we have and I know I should just enjoy the ride but it gets me every time. Sorry for the long winded message but I give a s*** and I hate seeing us as we are like 2 years ago just barely getting by again.

Roy selects and sets the team up. Roy chooses the subs. Take a look at him in this game when cameras showed hm when we went down he looked like a man lost. Brings on a striker who has what is it 1 goal in 30 something games. We have a right back who it is very clear to see is not a first team starter. We have looked poor from balls going into the box yet no one is trying to block them. Both Lutons goals was such poor defending. You can disagree that is your choice but it's incorrect. Didn't see the match. From what's posted it sounds like we were complete sh1te. Yet the stats reveal that we had 61% possession. We had 16 shots of which 8 were on target, whereas Luton had 8 shots of which 3 were on target. The stats seem to show that maybe we were a tad unlucky? What can't be questioned is the huge problem we have again with injuries. In some of the upcoming games, which we'll lose, why the hell not give some of our "not ready" players a chance to step up to the plate?
We had high possession because Luton sit back and we did what we do knock the ball around but not doing anything with it no real intent on going forward (Luton are bit like old Palace possession didn't matter) Yes we had some chances with fair % of those from corners but not really any threat maybe 2 of those. Not unlucky at all they deserved it because of the work rate and drive to when they had a chance try to take it. I wouldn't say injuries was issues either Roy as he does same old. Schlupp and Ward should not be starting games. I was confused why Ayew didn't start. Wasted over 20m on A kid who gets 0 game time what was the point if you cant even get 1 minute in a game like this what does that say (Come Jan he has to be loaned out) I feel for Roy in some ways but he knows what we is getting he is not new to the club and will know how SP operates (This is why we struggle to get managers to stay or interest from them why would you want to work for SP mt chum with the players and wont open the wallet) Originally posted by DenTyler

Why do Palace have so many limitations this is down to the person in charge a team which has been in this league for how long we have should not still be on shoe string it's SP job to get the club out in the world attracting interest. This is why I don't rate him and see it as to move forward we need someone else he can not do this it's above his skill set plus reach. Franca is not a striker he is more of attacking mid. A big issue Palace have is lack of movement this is tactics the same with this awful slow play at the back so many clubs do this now but with better quality you see they have more fluid about it we don't. Mitchell didn't start out as a defender did he? and when I see him he doesn't look like one (I would like to see him on the wing with someone else behind him) We will see Roy vs PV this season you could say Everton and Luton should not lose those games draw worst case but we lost both now the next round of games until Jan if we go on run not getting results it would make Roy on par with PV. (PV was never that good anyway I said it when we signed him not a good choice his record at other clubs was poor and the style he liked to play requires lot of spending which we did he had around 130m and still wanted another 60m+ to be spend which to be fair PV wanted Nketia who we refused to pay 20m for another one on SP)

People saying we haven't got that many good players, well, how many do Luton have? They are assembled off a shoestring and freebies. We didn't just lose to Liverpool. The forwards seemingly had no plan. There were no obvious tactics at play. No overloads. No-one got tight on Barkley when he was clearly running the show for them. The subs were like for like with no change to the shape. We created chances because Luton aren't very good. I'm sorry but sometimes the manager is to blame. That shows you just where we are, the only difference is that they are new to EPL in their first season and we have learnt nothing and made little progress now in our 11th season and to summarize, we cannot beat a newly promoted, shoestring team as you call them, there is no excuses for us, these are games we must and have to win otherwise it an increasing downwards spiral to relegation!

We have 8 current senior internationals plus Olise as an under 21 international. If we can’t beat Luton then you have to question the tactics and game management. I’m afraid that has to be down to the manager.

I don't agree. I think we have enough quality that we should not be struggling like we are. Guehi, Andersen, Doucoure, Olise and Eze were all wanted by CL clubs in the summer. Lerma was POTY for Bournemouth last season. Our first XI today was much, much better than Luton's. We all know where the weaknesses are, but in these games we should be doing a lot better. I think Roy has become the problem.

I’ve just had a bet on Roy being sacked. Harsh in some ways. As mentioned a lot is not his fault . It’s just football though and if you ain’t getting results he’ll be gone. Looking at our next run of games it won’t be long. If paddy McCarthy takes over il quit being a fan of 32 years. That would be a joke

Absolutely disgraceful and pathetic. But we'll stay up this season so that's ok then. Insult to the fans this clubs attitude. What year will the new stand be ready? And even when/if that's ever done, we'll still have home and away fans using the absolute s***hole that is the arthur waite stand! Disgraceful and a total piss take.
