Rubbish game management reminiscent of last season.

The penalty was not a penalty.

1) If Roy is on the touch line, we win this match.
2) Our squad depth is an issue, Ward at starting right back and Richards at back up center back will land us 14th.
3)Ayew’s grit was missed in the final 15
4) Eze wasn’t on the ball enough for me and when he was he was not as aggressive as I’d like.
5) Doucoure didn’t look himself with Lerma’s absence. Hughes had a good match but Cheick was sub par today.

Thought Doucoure had a great game - disagree with your 5
Even if Ayew hadn’t got injured, he would have been knackered in the last 15 as was most of the players. Missed Lerma big time and needed Hughes on the bench to be one of the quality players missing from the bench to come on for the last 15 / 20 minutes. Even your 4 in my opinion isn’t how I saw it. Thought Eze saw load of the ball but sadly was poor with it :-(
Definitely agree with 2 and our squad depth, especially with the injuries we have.
Biggest issue was not getting that killer 2nd goal and for me it was Eze that was the main culprit in that not happening today.
Mind you if the ref had done his job properly and not given the penalty we would have come out of it with a credible draw?

I don't understand if the ref was so confident it was a penalty why it took him 5 minutes to decide? Surely if he was struggling to tell he doesn't give a penalty? A shame as 1-1 was probably a fair result.

We showed how limited our squad is outside the first 11 but we showed a lot of heart so I'm not going to complain too much, although we should really of finished the game off when we had the chance. The ref awarded Villa the win and we move on.

BTW, for the pedants out there, the penalty should have been retaken for encroachment according to the FA rules. I mean, they probably would have scored again, but the Palace players clearly pointed it out and VAR didn't intervene.

Agree with you there . There was clearly a Villa player in the box when the penalty was taken and should have been retaken , if Johnstone would have save it they would have check to make sure his feet were on the line . I also thought that VAR was brought in to rectify clear and obvious errors yet it took over 5 min of three of them and they still got it wrong . f***ing joke . The only thing clear and obvious to me is that the Ref and Var are inept , usless, currupt or just plain cheats , and how did that Villa manager not get booked for all the complaining he was doing Roy would have went full psycho on him .

Our lack of depth and quality in our squad is what cost us today. We put our strongest team out and Ayew went off after 20 minutes. The international break didn’t do us any favours whatsoever and we were on the back foot even before the 3 o’clock kick off.

Let’s move on and hopefully we can make amends against Fulham.

absolutely, because he is woefully short of PL standard and gets caught out in every game he plays.

Didn't take long for posters to start blaming Richards. FYI, Watkins kicked Richards on the back of the heel & in stumbling Richards then fouled Watkins. OK?

1) Nonsense
2) Correct until you mention Richards who has performed in every game he has been put in (He doesn't get any sold game time if he did we would see what he is really about)
3) He is important to us (shows again why we needed investment in the squad massive loses when these players are out)
4) Other teams know he is the main man for us so the bigger teams will cancel him out (Another example should have purchased other players for other options)
5) He did what he could and needs players around him to do work as well

The way we fell apart at the end was a disgrace and shows Ward is not correct captain it's people like him that should be setting example and screaming at people he doesn't (He is not this level anymore anyway again showing what a joke the squad is if he starts every week)

Andersen is captain on the pitch and he should have the armband

I get so angry when we’re winning and our players stupidly think time wasting will help. It usually doesn’t. It just gives the TMO or ref excuse to add double time on. These players never learn but they aren’t very clever.

The beatings will stop when morale improves.

I thought Richards was excellent today and don’t know what he has to do to get a regular game (instead of ward). Eze will be a fine player one day but not until he stops wasting possession. We went toe to toe with a surprisingly poor villa team. Silenced villa park until last 10 mins and that worldie strike. Always miss ayew. Andersen couldn’t pass to save his life today!!!! Great to see edouard n mateta combining. Hughes is a great squad member and surely should be ahead of schlupp. Poor result but pretty damned good performance again

I not sure I would say it was a good performance when you are leading after 87 0-1 and end up losing 3-1 (albeit away) to a team that was below you in the league before today's game!

There has to be moments where contact with the ball and player are at exactly the same time and I feel this is what happened today, the ref easily could've said no pen ..we all know what MOTD will say though.
