Genuine question. How many super top players like Patrick, Lampard, Gerrard have become lasting successful top club managers? Globally. Zidane, Deschamps, Guardiola did play for Barca, Ancelotti? - struggling on any more. I think there are quite a few however the ones that have failed will undoubtedly outweigh those who were successful to any extent.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

I cant think of a single one that was successful on his own merits that didn't take over an already successful team or had the club he join throwing money at him. You even look at Dalglish and think Hmm, Wouldn't of got Palace promoted though Kenny would you pal?

Fabio Capello retired and then started at the bottom as a manager and was successful immediately. He is the only top player that I can think of that became a top manager all on his own.

If we lose the next two or three it is surely likely that a change will be made. There are plenty of ambitious and/or unemployed managers who would relish the opportunity to jump on the management merry go round . There always is, and it’s not as if we are cut adrift. The last opportunity to invest in the team came and went. Our investors were not stretched although weaknesses were very clear. No doubt they'll be happy to offload Wilf's salary and cash in on our 'rising stars' when the situation presents itself. They've never been in it for the long-term and certainly haven’t been prepared to take CPFC to the next level on their money. It will be pointless spending money on developing the ground because 30,000 people will not turn up to watch Championship football at Selhurst Park.

There'll obviously be a lot of duds though as their rep helps get them management jobs that they might not be fully qualified for.

Very interesting to see what Vincent Company is doing at Burnley. On current performance he will surely replace Guardiola when the time comes.

Pep thinks very highly of these three and with a new man in charge for the rest of the season,we could even end up mid table, provided Parish sees sense after the next two defeats coming our way under Mr.Nice.

PV is a Wenger disciple. We aint got the players in central midfield to pass the ball around too much so we need to get the ball forward to our front players quicker. Still got to play 8 of the bottom 9 so would be surprised if he got fired after his return to the Emirates.

Laying all this on the manager is purely based on emotion. Half way through the season, we were mid table. We still are now, after playing teams who are above us. It's like sailing a badly constructed boat through a storm and the boat is taking on water. But the storm is almost over. And neither of those factors are the fault of the captain, or manager in our case. But let's chuck him overboard anyway. And when the storm ends, we'll still have a badly constructed boat taking on water. But now we have no captain/manager. Edited by Tim Gypsy Hill '64 (13 Mar 2023 1.25am) Very well put I couldn't have put it better myself.
Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course). |

Since we beat West Ham we have failed to beat Villa, Brentford, Brighton, Fulham. We have not exactly played City every week. I wouldn’t have us as favourites to beat a single team in this division at the moment. We are in serious trouble. You forgot to mention we kick started Forest's season immediately after beating West Ham with, IIRC, another no shots on target performance although a missed penalty which obviously isn't on Pat. Roy was at the game Saturday. Most of the top half teams have looked inconsistent and beatable this season. Edited by Rachid Rachid Rachid (13 Mar 2023 7.40pm)
