Why ?

We have taken 4 points from the last 6 games . 2 more than Leeds, 1 less than Bournemouth and just 2 less than the likes of Chelsea, West Ham , Southampton and Everton.

We are perhaps boring, but consistent and we will stay up.

Don't like all your politics.

But your football and level headed response to the knicker wetters is commendable.

A point is brilliant.

Context is required here. A point was fine at 2:45 this afternoon. Not in the 95th minute when we're leading 1-0 and have possession of the ball.

Sometimes the bigger picture isn't the final score but the manner in which it was achieved.

Before moaning at PV, just reflect on the previous managers and the dirge they have served up. Pat is attracting good players in, which is what we will need this summer. Still punching above our weight with very little spent. Everton, Leeds, Forest, Bournemouth, Southampton, West Ham all spending a fortune trying to stay up. The reality is three of them are going to go down this year. Would rather not be in their shoes. 10 points possibly 11 to stay up. 2 wins, 5 draws or 3 wins, 2 draws. 10 soft fixtures towards the end the season, including the bottom 6, 3 of which are at home. We are also picking up points against higher clubs.

Played well today unlucky not to win. Ayew had a good game. Mateta not so much.

Ayew made the same mistake as today playing for Ghana in the World Cup of needlessly giving the ball away and the opposition scored. For all his hard work, the almost complete lack of goals and these silly errors really don’t do him any favours

A point away to Brentford this season is not to be frowned upon however the last second let alone minute equaliser is a kick in the nuts.

The worrying part for me is I have thought we seem a bit fragile and naive at times this season. Last season under PV we seemed to have the balance of the old, well drilled, dogged Hodgson side plus some young exuberance and flair. It often looks as though the pendulum has swung too far the other way now. You could just say it’s football as it was when olise got the beauty against United however.

My prediction as things stand is that it’s not going to be praise worthy or anything to get excited about but we’ll be safe eventually and probably long before final couple of games. It’s been and still is a tough run of fixtures however statistics are looking worse and worse. I wonder if things look very far from promising we will part ways with PV at end of season, or the longer we go without a win it could be sooner. I’m also suspicious funds will not be forthcoming therefore we’ll see someone else in the dugout soon. I wouldn’t have looked forward to Hodgson spending £200mil if that was available but equally I don’t want to see PV or his ilk in there if we’re polo.

There was so much hope and optimism last season but this one looks like a return to reality. At this stage I just want us to get past 40 then look to the next one. No cup or anything else to hope for.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

My simple summary.

Most would have taken a point away at Brentford before the game.

It's very annoying that with five minutes to go it was looking a foregone conclusion we would concede.

Andersen is a very ,very important player for us.

The fact of the matter is that we created very little even in the way of a half chance. It was a classic rear-guard Hodgson display whereby the objective is to nullify the opposition by not venturing too far forward and opening up the space.
Elsewhere, after Eze's well taken goal I noted that he was puffing hard despite being on the pitch briefly. The fellow is clearly unfit and this observation would go someway to explaining his lacklustre displays over the season.
Fitness levels may also explain why this team in general don't get up and down the pitch with the frequency expected for a side looking for a win.

But my point is that it’s rarely an effective ploy to time waste from say the 87 minute. Ref has this time wasting ‘injury’ in his mind at critical pressurised end period and always adds much more time than the player was down for. It usually back fires.

Thanks Andersen.

I thought time was added on by an official timekeeper and not by the referee.

Mark Warburton has said that he never looks at the possession stats, just the number of chances his team create.

Lack of creativity yesterday, 25% possession and only 1 effort on target against Brighton, recent sub-standard performances, suffice to say the 'Direction of travel' is far from encouraging.
