It was so awful that a complete rebuild is required, starting with PV and the coaching team immediately, the scouting and recruitment (Dougie) second and then an acceptance by Parish that he should gracefully hand over to a proper CEO who knows the job. Embarrassing, I have been a supporter for 62 years, never felt so frustrated. Here we are 10 years in and wallowing still in mediocrity, totally dependant on one player to "save" us every year and Wilf will most likely pack his bags in the summer for something less dire than this shambles from top to bottom .

Occasionally the miracle does happen.

That was the best we could hope for today so I’m feeling smug.

I’ve never said it, but I was as close to PV out as I’ve ever been. Dreadful, lazy and clueless performance. If he picks another starting XI like that I’ll be convinced he really doesn’t have a clue.

I don't want to turn on the manager, but something is not right.

There's an argument that he's had money to spend. There's a counter argument that the side is still under-invested.

But regardless, there's just a general apathy, a lack of desire, a lack of running. All of these things are free, and essentially a choice. Will Hughes was never going to be the final piece to a puzzle, but at the moment, he's looking like a crucial player just because he sticks his head in where it hurts and gets involved. In comparison to others, he stands out, when in reality, it's such a low bar.

There's a number of players who don't give a s***, ride the gravy train, pick up their £50k a week and have it easy because the manager doesn't change things around and introduce competition for places.

Good to have you on the HOL Mr Derry!

Joking aside, I agree with you. I've wanted Vieira to go for a while now because I can see us sleepwalking towards relegation.
No goals from open play in 10 league games says it all!

I am beginning to wonder if we're just not fit enough.

15 months ago, it looked like we were going to play a high octane, intensive pressing game. We built from the back, and made silly errors occasionally in the process, but were clearly trying to implement something. Obviously, Gallagher was a huge part of that, but I swear he wasn't alone. Now I don't know what we are actually doing.

It's like the conditioning already present from the previous regime has ebbed away, so we are incapable of implementing the playing style of October 2021.

It's reported we have the lowest running stats in the division. Players that used to look so assured now look sub-standard. Ayew plays every week, I guess, maybe, because he's quite fit and does actually put effort in. I just don't recall any lung-busting runs, or marauding full backs or any sign of a player going beyond what they're reasonably expected to do in a 50/50 scenario. I see so few indicators that individual players really want to win the little individual battles that go on throughout a match.

Is it just me? Referring to a fitness issue is a generous excuse for the players. Because it's either that, or just a complete lack of desire. Or a complete lack of self belief. We all lack energy when depressed

Spot on mate.

Without intending to be backhanded and with no real spite as I am quite happy but when Hughes and Ayew, two players I’m fond of, are your best performers it tells its own story.

The two new lads look ok but even ASL stood out for the fact he was actually trying to play football.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

did I say that noooo but we have been out played by brighton alot and got a result , we have played well and got nothing so rough with the smooth and guess what we scored without wilf again , to much money in the game is more my worry than my team not looking like world beaters week in week out , priority's yours seems more about the team performance than silly money being paid while everybody struggles with the real world

I want to talk about the 'press' which is essential in today's football. When we had the ball today one of their midfield, usually McAllister came out of midfield to make a 2 pressing our centre backs, confident that we weren't good enough to play it out. Hence it went back to Guiata who could only kick it away and we lost possession. When they had the ball Mateta lumbered about, and no one came from midfield to assist, in part because Mateta couldn't press hard enough. They just had more time to build up.So I think Mateta cannot start anymore. We cannot gain the initiative in a game if we can't press.
There is the wider issue of athleticism however. Brighton worked so hard to get the ball back. We never seem to work quite as hard. That as much as individual ability is why we are struggling.
