That said we are comfortably mid table and that’s where we are likely to finish this season. We’re doing ok. Keep the faith. COYP!

Sadly the statistic show that 97% of elite academy players now aged between 21-26 have failed to make a single appearance in the EPL so the chances of us surviving on the academy output is not encouraging. As for lower league players from both here and abroad then both Brentford and Brighton as examples have demonstrated that they are much better than us at achieving that goal. Currently we have a leaky defence, weak midfield and need an Ivan Tony type striker. The reported PV comments below where he has made it perfectly clear that the current squad is not strong enough
and that includes any potential academy players. Whilst I love your assumption that we will be comfortably mid table come the end of the season we need to remind ourselves that six points clear of a relegation spot is a long way from a safe mid table finish in a league where currently any team on 19 points or lower could still face a battle for epl survival!

Looks like they took it from the linesman foot . Guhie must have very big feet . Ive seen goals ruled out from arms shoulders and hands being in an offside position , There is no consistency.

It is so obviously offside from that pic, what on earth were they looking at?

This decision really stinks. This is one of those occasions where the officials need to show what evidence they have to overturn the original decision.

Every freezeframe/replay I've seen show that he's offside, and quite clearly.

The photo that the decision was based on is across the pitch from the front, clearly, albeit by cm, Guehi foot (toenail) has been adjudged by the computer and operator to be in front of the scorer. Under the old line of sight system we may have got away with it but with VAR it's either yes or no based on minute measurements. The real reason we lost and did not get a point was Zaha and his schoolboy penalty miss!

in this picture the ball has not been passed, 1 second more when the ball is played, he is offside

Sorry that is the official picture from VAR and that's it I'm afraid had the shoe been on the other foot as it was recently it's okay then of course. VAR is here to stay and overall it makes those tight decisions more accurate, even if you don't like them when they go against us. The real reason we got nothing from this game was Zaha!

Yep. As I posted on a different thread, we somehow managed to weaken our (already thin) squad over the summer while the majority of clubs around us strengthened theirs. CK given away to Forest being a pertinent example.

Is our squad weaker? The stats don’t agree, we are performing better than last season, if all the clubs around us strengthened they aren’t being managed correctly.

One thing that has not been mentioned about the inconsistency of decisions on Saturday. At least twice I. 2nd half, ref stopped play, when we had the ball, as Yates had gone down injured. Before they scored Mitchell went down and is clearly in distress, play was allowed to go on and Johnson had free reign to shoot.
Wright on MOTD criticised the space Johnson had, well that’s because Mitchell was injured.
Not using this as an excuse as we got what we deserved but the inconsistency stinks. I still believe the goal was offside and it seems, that maybe, the wrong angle was used

I don't care if it is the official photo, the ball has not left his foot, but i agree that Zaha, miss was crucial, but the most important part was the inept team tactics by PV

I'm not aware of the club's strategy of ''surviving on the academy output ''. Indeed I can't think of any club that employs that strategy.

Players from the lower leagues don't get anything like the number of opportunities that they used to. And while Brentford have a scouting operation that has paid dividends, plenty of clubs were aware of Ivan Toney but Brentford were brave enough to take the plunge and buy him. Brighton's main success has been buying young players from abroad, not the lower leagues in the UK.

I agree that looking at our league position at the moment should not be a reason for complacency as I said in an earlier post on this thread. We need at least two, preferably three players that are ready to compete for a starting place because too many players are getting selected as there is little competition for their places.

This can only be said if he wasn't involved in the decision to award it, I feel having seen the actual pic VAR used to decide I'm somewhat confused still as it's impossible to tell when the ball was actually kicked when comparing both images, this also includes the lines they draw to confirm their decision.

It is almost as if they make a decision then move the images and lines to justify it.
