We are trying to accommodate Zaha, Olise, Eze and Edouard which in some ways is admirable but they are all ball players who are not great out of possession.
Even if they track back and work hard they are not equipped to win the ball which means in some games , like today, the impression is given that we are carrying these players.
As others have noted, we may be able to accommodate them all if we change the system or strengthen our midfield.
However, Vieira shows no sign of doing the former and we can’t address the latter until the transfer window.

You can have that four in, but Ayew/Olise need to make way for another DM

You are correct, Wilf, Eze, Olise/Ayew and Doucoure with Hughes, Jairo until we can get someone better in, one too many flair players

Even with today's poor performance by MO, I just don't see what people see in Ayew. Yet again his technical limitations were there for all to see. Being able to press doesn't make him a PL player

The Famous Five, it gave Tottenham the reputation for being the most attacking team that ever existed. Wasn't Klinsmann one of them?

Klinsmann, Barmby, anderton, Sheringham and someone else.

Gica Popescu and Illie Dumitrescu are names in my head too.

The sad thing is, like Spurs in '94/'95 we have attacking potential, but with no platform to build on, we don't have a chance of consistently winning games. Especially away.

I perused at the starting line-up and concluded that we would get totally overrun in midfield.
Milivojevic given a starting birth was ridiculous, I have lost all faith in him.
Poor team selection from Vieira.

I didn't see the game and Willo issuing such a splenetic jeremiad means Match of the Day will be given the coldest of shoulders.

It feels like we are starting to become one of those stale teams who stink out the Premier league. We need some fire in the belly. There is a real lack of that at the moment.

How many more games with the same set-up and being overrun and outplayed in midfield?

Well, certainly a bad display today and substitutions didn’t help as well. As for our midfield, it’s been non existent all season but luckily we have picked up points with it being poor. We have one midfield player every match selected with Dacoure being the best to choose from. Sadly he is always on his own and today it was Luka’s turn to be our one midfielder. Yes, he was at fault for Everton’s first goal but that isn’t our problem, it’s team selection with no support for our one midfielder who gets selected. Luka in the second half was then replaced and our midfield suffered even more as our midfield had no recognised midfield players? As for the other players chosen to play in midfield each week they are square pegs in round holes. It doesn’t work having so many forward style players playing in midfield as they aren’t strong enough to battle for the ball or positional play in the middle. So often this season as today they couldn’t pass or control the ball to set up attacks nor support anyone around them. The back four are under tremendous pressure because of this and today they couldn’t hold out. Everton had an easy day I’m afraid and unless changes in the middle are made today’s result will happen more often. A balanced midfield is required and some of our favourite players need to be on the bench where they will be more beneficial coming on later in the game?

He actually wasn’t as at fault as Guehi was. But not as cool to hassle Guehi.

Agree Luka was poor though. No worse than anyone else mind.

The players must look at Veira’s team and set up and be equally baffled. I’m sure they are disillusioned. I acknowledge we are thin in midfield but there was no excuse for playing Milo on his own in central midfield. Ridiculous and we all called it before match. (Except one oddball Milo fan)

Assume I’m the oddball fan you’re referring to? I’m actually not really - just think people deserve a chance before they get slated. And yes, Luka was poor. But no worse than anyone else to be fair. Woeful from 1-11.

Rest assured, I shall NOT be watching our drivel on MOTD.
All reports have indicated we were total and utter hogwash.
High-decibel fulmination in 'Chez Willo' and the reservation for dinner has been cancelled.

On the coach on the way back... Absolutely awful. I don't care what people said about Leicester last week this was worse. The Wolves result masked another poor performance where Wolves really should of been 3-0 up at half time.

I say it every week it feels like but I stand by what I say.. If we are going to start with players like Luka, Ayew and Ward then we are bang in trouble. All 3 of those are Championship players at best and only half decent ones.

What on earth has happened to Mitchell?? Unless he can see the easy pass to Zaha he is totally lost.. We have not progressed from last season. We've gone backwards.

The most frustrating thing about today is we played an Everton side who have struggled since the day Lampard took over and they didn't even need to get out of second gear.

Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!!

Something I'm wondering and just throwing it out there: how about we use Andersen or Guehi in as out and out Anchor and bring in Tomkins? I know Tomkins is rusty but Andersen, in particular, seems better on the ball than our midfielders. Then perhaps Eze and Doucoure midfield with Zaha, Mateta, Olise up front? Or even put Schlupp in midfield - Eze out Left, Zaha central and Olise right.
