I departed the ground with a face like thunder and I made the decision to keep my counsel for fear of regretting my outpourings of bile in the cold light of day.

Deeply disappointing conceding so late after taking the lead.
Patrick Vieira will clearly reflect on his use of substitutions and I for one expressed my displeasure at the decisions which were made.

Did Southgate and Veira go to the same coaching school? The one that teaches;
“When you have the opposition on the racks and are about to kill the game off. STOP. Take your foot off the gas, defend, invite tons of pressure and let them back in the game…”

In all seriousness, we simply don’t have a defence capable of killing off a game and soaking up pressure and it’s worrying Veira is the only person incapable of seeing this.

I also think Guehi is being found out to a degree. He looks so uncomfortable under pressure. It doesn’t help Mitchell looked the same when he came on. Ironically they both look good when the team is in positive mode going forward…

Terrible end of game tactics and we were lucky in end to get a draw. I’d like to know what influence Osian Roberts has over such decisions. I appreciate it’s ultimately PV’s call but let’s hope Roberts isn’t there giving bum advice and adding to the problem.

I cannot understand how Luka gets on the pitch. When he came on with 10 left I knew that was it. He's too slow, can't tackle, can't pass or cross.
Absolutely need to upgrade him, Jairo also seems out of the picture and this evening showed how thin we are outside of the first 11. We wont improve on last seasons position with this current squad.

He's got a 91% pass completion in his minutes this season, not sure about the can't pass quip

I'm with you there, I'm afraid. Add the fact that we've also managed to weaken the midfield! The simple fact is that the Premier League has moved on, but we have failed to do so. Given our lack of resources, that's not surprising, unless the last 2 days of the window produce something extraordinary, I fear it's going to be a long, hard season.

I have been expressing this sentiment for some time, both very vocally privately and on HOL and been the butt of criticism for being an 'Elijah of doom' etc etc.

That's what happens when you willingly cede possession through applying a defensive mindset and not competing in other areas of the park, most notably the midfield. One would have thought that being a midfielder in his day Vieira might know this, yet he keeps making the same error. Perhaps, as I suggest, we are just too thin in the midfield to play a sustained competitive game in that area.

Agree with all the post but I think that in bold may well be a decent assertion regarding PV's opinions.

Mentioned by many but I can never understand the mentality of letting the opposition give it a go for the last 10 mins or so, especially when it's Brentford (no offence intended). Even if doing that having two 'modern' CBs who do not do the dirty 'blood and guts' stuff very well nor defend set pieces with much confidence is always Russian roulette stuff. You can always throw in a change of formation too to further cause bedlam for the team at the back

Not worthy of mighty uproar IMHO or too much whining but if it continues the volume may well get turned up.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

There is nothing wrong in just saying Brantford deserved their point, they caused us problems from the very start and can understand our subs based on our slender lead.

Brentford are a well organised team, they stopped us playing very well, they doubled up on Olise and Zaha, that Hickey played particularly well. Eze just didn’t turn up at all.
There used to be relentless criticism of Roy for not using subs, now Vieira gets criticism for using them. The problem is depth of quality on the bench, he needed to bolster the midfield rather than defence, but with no Hughes or McArthur not any options, Luka just not good enough for the pace of the present game.

Vieira has received criticism for his substitutions. My mind wanders back to his tenure at Nice when after a promising first season, progress was not maintained and he was relieved of his duties.

This is an excerpt from an article :

"If Vieira had stayed, Nice might have forced their way into the top eight this season. But, with no clear strategy, it is difficult to see how they could have achieved any long-term success. The club had not sacked a manager midway through the season since 2011, which shows just how bad it had become. For an increasingly ambitious club, the performances simply became unacceptable"

If we had held out and won 1-0 then PV would be taking the plaudits for doing what he did. Thin dividing lines.

However, where I sit in the LH, all around me predicted what was going to happen as a result of those subs.

Early results indicate that there could be only one club looking like they are certs for the bottom three ( Bournemouth ), I don't see any other ' whipping boys ' in there. And it feels like most other clubs have had a better window than we have.

Agree with all of that.

The entire Glazier's Lounge section became tangibly and somewhat audibly on edge after the subs for another perspective.

As Wilf said we were in complete control of the game until we made the subs and give them the boost of seeing 2 of our best 3 attacking players going off

we did alot without really getting close , Mateta couldnt find space and when he did the final ball never come , we really need tobe more clinical in and around the box seems tobe some sort of force field when we get near and try to do the perfect pass , look at man city we blocked there root so they just passed it round our back 6 and it was easy passing no clever flicks ,

we lose shape in defence at the back end of a game time and time again , if we are going to shut games down needs tobe for 90 mins not stop at 80 to 85 mins and better to send the ball in to the crowd and do silly passes near the box W formation the older fans should remember that ,

lost points overall but with a little more care with passing it would have been 2 3 nil fine lines

I was talking about Hickey last night prior to the game.
An attacking left-back and an excellent crosser of the ball.He scored 5 goals in 'Serie A' last season.
