Saint-Maxim and Saka are constantly fouled, especially the former whose end product is well below Wilf's and who constantly gives the ball away. Mahrez plays in a team that is all about one-touch football so does not put himself in the same positions as Wilf. Zaha often has to hold the ball to allow time for other players to get up the pitch, or he has to do it alone, similar to Saint-Maxim who is constantly fouled. In fact if you look at teams outside the top four if they have a standout winger/forward you will see they are right up there for most fouls on them, such as Sarr, Maddison, Saint-Maxim, etc. It's cynical but as Vieira alluded to, it's part of the game. Do you play nice and lose, or turn to the darker arts to swing the odds in your favour? Leeds are fighting for survival so there was no room for playing nice, however frustrating for us and the team that might have been. Same with Everton v Liverpool. Teams know that the best way to stop Wilf is to kick him, pull him, whisper in his ear, etc. When you're at the games you see some of the off the ball stuff that goes on that isn't on camera. I think a lot of us agree that his inability to brush this off is what has held him back more than his talent. Thankfully in the last 7 or 8 games he finally seems to be containing his anger more, but Leeds really tested that. With Southampton and JWP up this weekend he could be tested again.

Edited by Painter (27 Apr 2022 10.54pm) I was going to post the same thing myself. There are very many players in the Premier League who are far better than Zaha is and get fouled just as much but you don't see any of them carrying on the way he does. It seems like every two minutes he's sitting down on the, pitch gesticulating like a spoilt brat. He needs to get up and get on with it. It's embarrassing.

So he wears his heart on his sleeve and finds it hard to accept cynical targeted fouling .... deal with it, hes our standout star player without whom we would probably still be struggling in the championship. It's not immaturity its just how he is. I find yours and others criticism Of Wilf embarrassing.

Actually that's b*llocks cos he is officially the most fouled player in the Prem by a country mile. If I was constantly kicked all over the park, then labelled a diver by arseh*les like Phillips I think I'd have a right to feel pissed off too! Leeds only had one tactic all night, like they've only ever done, kick players until they can't run anymore. I for one will gladly see them go down. Edited by indianapalace85 (28 Apr 2022 2.12pm)

Really? Name a few then? Expand please and also name me one player who has been remotely as important to his club in the last decade then Wilf to us? I don't think there are very many of those, actually I think not a single one even comes remotely close.

And there are other players who also gesticulate etc. when fouled one of which, Grealish, sold for 90 million. Yes, Wilf gets upset quite often but I really think he deserves better from referees and probably would be protected more if he played for a bigger club.

Spends too much time running with the ball - slows the attack down mostly. Grealish does the same which is why they both get fouled a lot. If they dont like it they should play two touch or one touch football. It is no coincidence that Pep does not play Grealish that much.

This. It would help if our strikers actually ran towards the box as soon as wilf gets the ball. Every other time he makes it to the byline. JPM seems to read this better than the others.

I agree; just a shame that on Monday night his touch seemed a bit off - one ended high in the Holmesdale and the other two first half chances would have gone in on another day. That said, he certainly puts in the effort and makes himself a nuisance to defenders,
