Wards inclusion was a strange one, particularly as Mitchell was fit to start. Not an effective wing back and stood off Werner twice for the 2nd goal in quick succession. Goalkeeper change would of done nothing as both goals difficult to keep out. Might of been worse as Guaita's forte isn't kicking. None of those worked either and just ceded possession to Chelsea. Tactics were similar to league game and we fell short in similar circumstances to defensive errors. Always difficult to defend without a slip for a whole game against superior opposition. Their last 2 games might of been a factor in the manager's thinking. Saw a very brief glimpse in 2nd half when we attacked them. Could of ended like Brentford or Soton if we had started with that line up. Shame our only chances fell to defensive players. Fans did us proud throughout the game. COYP !!

Kouyate and Anderson are professional footballers who both should have got their headers on target (at least) I can’t excuse them as they are defensive players.

Fine margins in football.

Based on today's performance, Eze isn't a replacement for Max Meyer. He was utter sh-t, again. I'm sorry for his injury, but if this is all he has left, get rid of him ASAP.

Strange as it might sound but Eze had more freedom to do his stuff under RH with his defensive tactics . Under PV all the players have defensive responsibilities if higher up the pitch . At one point yesterday Eze was 50 yards behind (covering) Ward ,he was also the closest to Mount when he scored the 2nd , for someone who we see as a flanbouyant attacker that maybe explians why he has not recaptured pre injury form .

We are still a work in progress ,lets not get down on players who are being asked to do stuff outside their comfort zone . It will make them better for it .

If a player isn't doing what the manager asks of him, why is he selected? Particularly in such an important game? Everytime I see Eze, he is always 2 yards off his man, with what appears to be an unwillingness to get closer and make physical contact. I understand this could well be due to the psychology behind the injury recovery period, but in reality Eze needs to step up a gear in preparation for next season.

Disappointing. Zaha not involved enough. Mateta shocking first touch. Eze still looks slow. Olise should have started. Ayew greedy, could have crossed early but has to go for impossible angle. Anderson should of headed into open goal for grandstand finish.

Its probably why he hasnt been selected as much as we thought he would be after the injury ,that he doesnt fit with what PV is asking of our midfielders . With Gallagher out though there was a change in approach ,we were not closing down so much but covering spaces .Eze actually does that quite well .
With Ezes attacking attributes it was worth the gamble to play him yesterday .

FFS Chelsea are on a totally different level to us. They have beaten us the last 10 times, we have played them, they just beat Real Madrid away, current Champions league and World Club holders. Without Gallagher, who is key to his normal system wasn't available, PV tried to shuffle his pack, it worked in the first half, Chelsea reorganised at halftime.
Your hero Eze is just so overrated, Olise showed him up in the few minutes he was on the pitch.

Absolute rubbish, when we played Chelsea in Feb, we played 4-3-3 and where the better team, hitting the post twice and making chances without Gallagher, only to be robbed by a last minute goal, Eze should have had more game time, sitting on the bench for six games not getting on was a joke, Eze is a better player than PV is a manager if we don't finish the last 7 games strongly it will go down as a very poor season

We lost, however you dress it up.

Eze doesn't get game time, because he isn't good enough, the new Max Meyer. Occasional good touch, but to weak to play in the Premier.

Eze is the best player at the club if you play him right, a free role behind the striker, with no defensive responsibly, if you don't want to play him like that, sell him, there will be many takers, then we will see what we missed

And we took 4 points off city so are we better than them ? You chat so much rubbish, Chelsea are comfortably 3rd, champions of Europe, werner, lukaku and haverts having a combined value of 200 mill but they're not that good, you're clueless, Chelsea are poor but eze is world class hahaha

What does this actually mean in the modern game? What you describe is fantasy. All playmaking number 10 types that I can think of (Messi, Totti, Zidane, and closer to home Beardsley, Le Tissier) could do more than just shuffle about behind the striker.

Eze didn't have a great game yesterday, but he's come in cold having not really been involved much this season. Those talking as if he's useless are bonkers. Our centre-backs played reasonably well yesterday but that really was about it. McArthur, Schlupp and Zaha were all too slow in possession and wasteful with their passing, so to single out Eze seems unfair. Prior to his injury he was probably our best performing player and on the verge of an England call up. There is definitely a question mark over whether Vieira can or will find a place for him in his first XI, but a fully-fit Eze is class.

Yes tl, I always thought so too. I posted earlier that I have been a big fan, but he hasn't had the opportunity to shine since his awful injury. We have Gallagher to thank for that.

It's quite noticeable that he doesn't chase and tackle with Gallagher's energy, but there was one small cameo yesterday when he ran with the ball and glided past a couple of players, was tackled, fell to the ground, got to his feet, recovered the ball and passed it. Many players would have rolled around clutching some part of their anatomy unrelated to the tackle looking for a free kick. That's more like it my son, I thought.

We'll be loving him again next season.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.
