To my miniscule mind, it would appear that Vieira believes that his best midfield trio is Gallagher,Kouyate and Schlupp and Eze for all his qualities is not preferred ahead of the aforementioned trio.

The narrative has been that Eze would be fit to return to action at the start of the year, and here we are in April and he has played second fiddle to those above.

Yes I agree, however hold the personal opinion that the only position 'up for grabs' is Schlupp's. I would be inclined to believe JMac could be perhaps deemed 'too old' now and Eze a 'luxury' or entertainer' as opposed to a well oiled cog in the proverbial machine with Hughes perhaps lacking the athleticism PV desires.

Love Kouyate, hope he remains there for the forseeable future, think Gallagher will go and be hard to replace but wouldn't be surprised to see any further recruitment focused on the midfield as front line and defence seem somewhat determined for now. We do still need a RB however, for the millionth year running!

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Hughes, Olise & Mitchell 50%, Ferguson Totally ruled out(poss season)

That link says Ferguson new injury April 8 ?

Thigh strain. Last I read it was hamstring.

Poor bloke seems injury prone.

Nicholas91, I agree with the general thrust of these comments.
In terms of Schlupp, he does provide physicality and being left-footed adds a balance to the midfield.

I'm a huge fan of Schlupp's myself, very much see him as an 'impact' player however and think he's best suited off the bench. Also would note that Hughes is also left-footed (Ai tink??).

Strong, definitely quick, can move well with the ball, direct and can certainly lash a ball with reasonable accuracy. I only doubt his 'footballing brain' as they say, and think his ability to consistently contribute across 90 mins may be questioned so, for what he certainly can bring, is worth having around for that dynamic, alternative option to add some explosiveness when required or desired.

He apparently started off as a forward, has played on the wing, LB, and centre too, less the sign of a utility player for me and more of a player with effective attributes however not moulded or adapted to a particular identity. Might seem harsh but perhaps just bad articulation from me.

Nicky Forster signed him as a striker for Brentford, then in Division 1, when he was caretaker manager and he scored 6 goals in 9 league appearances.

Schlupp can play in a number of positions including at left-back and as a striker and has that ability to turn and shoot with hardly any backlift. In his younger days he lacked composure in front of goal and sometimes his end product was found wanting but there have been improvements in these areas as he has gained more experience.

I think there's a very basic thing with Schlupp - he can tell what's going on in front of him, but not behind him, agree on his 'footballing brain' - his positional sense is not good, so he gets lost as a left back, left sided midfielder or left winger, but as an inside left (advanced left sided midfielder) he's great. Although he did spend a lot of his time v Arsenal deeper in midfield scrapping and pressing, so maybe PV is improving that part of his game. The trouble with our midfielders is that aspart from Gallagher they are either primarily defensive (Kouyate, Jimmy Mac, Luka) or offensive (Eze, Schlupp) - Gallagher is the only player who does both so our midfield is imbalanced when he's out. From PVs comments he feels the squad hadn't 'come down' sufficiently after the Arsenal game - I remember Dyche saying similar things about not letting a good run make you switch off.

What more does Vieira have to do to prove himself?

He is a Novice Manager, He needs to show he can perform regularly, he only has had 31 games, and has had a lot to spend, we have 1 point less than after 31 games last year, with a lot poorer squad, it will be interesting to see what he does in the summer, for me it is far to early to judge him

It was a very light-hearted poke at your constant insistence on Eze being the best player on the planet, as yet not recognised by the rest of the footballing world, and assertion that PV being fallible or perhaps just not making a decision you think would be best, is indicative of his failure as a manager.

It was a joke, a Christmas joke. But if you want complete sincerity, your constant moaning on here and bizarre assumption that you know better, let alone the boring and ridiculously narrow threads you constantly start, almost all of which can be boiled down to 'play Eze' do resemble the mindset of myself as a grouchy teenager thinking the world is upside down, least of all the football league, and if people had only listened to me we'd all be OK.

And for the record, I am well aware of PV's Nice record, I do think Eze is a great little player for us however trust that his absence from the team is relative (fitness, sharpness, tactical etc.) and whilst I do have very strong footballing opinions, I do enjoy the counter balance of others opinions too, or at least I factor them in to my own thinking and I actually have a Season Ticket, as I have done forever, and strangely do actually go to our matches.

We're comfortably mid-table with a promising squad as it stands, in the FA Cup semi-final and if I know anything, footballing opinions will always be subjective and theoretical as virtually impossible to prove otherwise.

So chill, Winston.

We have less points at this stage than we had last year, and we have spent a lot of money, we only have three creative players, Wilf, Olise and Eze, at least two of them have to play. i dont know if PV is good or not, it is too early to say, this time next year and we will know.

True, but we have scored more & conceded less, Willo posted this earlier

2020-21 : 10 wins, 38 pts, Scored 33, conceded 52, 13th position
2021-22 : 8 wins, 37 pts, Scored 43, conceded 40 10th position

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

I am not sure I agree 100% I think PV preference is for Jimmy Mac not Schlupp but due to his injury problems and age he is not always available. Schlupp is preferred to Eze as he is more versatile and can defend if required so is a more frequent replacement.

Gallagher has been a top performer since he arrived on loan and that is position Eze would take and that will not happen this season. Gallagher was brought in to cover the loss of Eze and he has taken his chance. Viera has changed the way he has played and made him more offensive.

I think next season we will play differently (assuming we can't keep Gallagher) with Eze in Gallagher position. This may involve purchasing a replacement for Jimmy Mac as DM who can also attack
