Will Smith resigns from Oscars Academy over slap - [Link] In fairness his apology does sound sincere, plus as a strategy I don't suppose it hurts to get ahead of the drawn out decision making process.

I think if he wrote that apology and means it I would leave it there in terms of the Academy itself. Jim Carey made some pointed and accurate comments about the Oscars and how that audience behaved however those aspects have been known about Hollywood for a very long time.....95 percent of them will do whatever they think benefits them regardless.....like Ricky Gervais said, if ISIS rang their agent for a project and they thought they could get away with it without damaging their reputation they would start the next day.....it's the nature of certain professions. While I don't think other kinds of people or classes would have had the sympathy and defence that Smith is getting from Hollywood However, it's also true that no one went to hospital here and that the man is obviously having mental issues. Taking the Oscar from him would start a precedent that personally I don't think that ends anywhere good....I think if he was deemed the best actor that year then that's his award....However, he should not have received it that night. He should have been escorted out of the building. I would like Smith to do a lot of work based upon stressing how important comedians are in society and how society needs to be able to take a joke, when it's a joke.
