Thanks for that. Although as you'll have read above, I can't agree about your second point. I think he could be a striker. It's not as if any of our current strikers have much better conversion rates. At least if Wilf is through on goal, I feel like he will score. Which is more than I could say for the others. I just don't think he has the pace or crossing ability to be an out and out winger anymore. He basically said it himself.

No

Why is it our other strikers are struggling could it be due to wilf not doing his job and providing service to them or if you watch him he is very lazy hardly closes down or comes back so one of those strikers ends up having to do that.

The guy wants an easy ride now wingers have a tough job.

Sooner this guy is dropped or sold the better for the club.

Just perused the following :

"First up is Zaha, who played centrally in a 4-2-3-1 system. He gave the ball away 21 times, lost eight of his 13 duels and also missed a big chance for the hosts.

Zaha also completed just three of his seven attempted dribbles and had two shots off target, making it an afternoon to forget for the 29-year-old."

Yes, it is like this. What PV decided for yesterday's tactics was that wingers were to be able to create and finish their own moves: genuine forwards were to be left on the bench. Hence we didn't look like scoring and didn't register one shot on target. Personally I can't fathom this approach, and although we know that a centre forward has the unglamorous task of putting the ball in the net, this is not the be all and end all of his game.
Leading the front line, harassing central defenders, pressing, defending set pieces all fall into the modern strikers role.

How can you say that we didn't look like scoring when both Zaha and Olise had shots that only narrowly missed

They missed. Our players currently don't look like scoring. It's a matter of confidence I do believe.

Clearly, whoever wrote that was at the same game as me and saw the same Wilf (non) performance as I did (despite his two good chances he had.

Wait, what? We're largely in agreement. This is the whole reason I'm saying I don't think he's a decent winger anymore, but could be a better striker.

Surely its not that hard to work out....best club team in the world, play 2 narrow wingers who will tuck in to pack the midfield and work back, free up Olise and Zaha to counter at pace, try to find them early.

Bar a single lapse of concentration, and some poor finishing we could have won it.

Final straw for me with Wilf on Saturday was his actions in stoppage time.

For those that didn't see, McArthur was taken off at the start of stoppage time, Mateta brought on, and McArthur threw the armband at Kouyate to get off the pitch as fast as possible. Kouyate puts it on. Game restarts. 4 minutes added on.

Within those 4 minutes, Zaha has decided to hunt down Kouyate, at the time our only defensive midfielder so the furthest from him, to get the armband off him.

His performance was poor, he should have been hooked before then, but I cannot fathom how who was wearing the armband for 4 minutes when we're 1-0 down was even in his mind.

PRIORITIES.

I started this thread to gauge general reaction and I have not seen anything to change my mind. If we can get anything for him, a bit like Aubangyamum and get him off our wage bill. Thanks for great memories Wilf.

Sad, but it had to come.
