If it has been found he is innocent then whoever it is who has fecked up his life should be jailed themselves.

Key witnesses withdraw statement. What does that mean? they were paid off? Or the police found evidence that shed doubt on the allegations.

It's difficult to tell what the reason was but if there is no witness to say this happened and why, the CPS would then have concluded that it dropped below the 50% threshold of prospects of conviction. In that case, the CPS must to drop the charges on their own rules.

Would that not be sufficient or, presumably still need the witnesses to be questioned. Looks to me like a pay off.

Having heard that audio recording I very much doubt its been dropped because he's been found to be innocent after all.

total speculation this but maybe the other party involved didnt want to go through the grief of a court case, friend of mine had a very violent husband, sexual allegations etc, she didnt want to go through court so he got away with it.

In which case the DPP should be ashamed for failing to protect this witness.

Let’s hope a clever journalist gets hold of this...and digs up the REAL reason....I can only think the main witness who we know pulled out...unreal really...

So it seems that, on here at least, he's still guilty but has just bought his way out of it. That report also refers to 'new material that has come to light' - maybe they have found social media posts that someone has been telling porkies somewhere along the line. It has been known for this to happen when they see an easy payday in compensation. Innocent until proven guilty!

I suspect this is part of it, there are abysmally low conviction rates in this country. His defence would that it was rough play and implied to be consensual. The trial then becomes an attempt to prove she didn't consent. Its also been going on for ages and the hearing wasn't due until Nov. So its also sucking up a huge amount of her and her families life, for something that she might not even win. But I also wouldn't be surprised if money is involved. What if Mason offered her 20% of all future earnings to walk away from the case...? Then she has to decide if she'd rather have him put away for x years, or be set for life at 19.
