Agreed. He is in the latter half of his career now, so needs to underline his legacy. He is earning great money, the fans have loved him up to now, but I think he has reached a junction in the road. Needs to knuckle down and show everyne what he can do, work hard to counter the impact of aging. Other option, the same old nonsense we saw at Spurs on Boxing Day and we will all be pleased to see the back of him. Time to grow up methinks. His theatrics are very boring and predictable now. Such an easy target in games. Hes got worse if anything. Still a great player and would certainly be a starter for me. However he has clearly peaked and is on the downward curve now. Or at least compared to the pacy winger we know of old. Thats not his game anymore, rarely attempts to beat anyone and looses the ball continually now. I know for a player like Wilf who takes risks in beating players the rate of being dispossessed is high but for me hes really lost this side of his game along with a yard or too. Having said that, this is because of the very high standards hes always set at Palace and now perhaps more of a mere mortal, albeit still an excellent one. Another point I can see happening is Wilf will likely feel the threat of Olise and Ayew for the wide berths and I dont think hes the type to use this as motivation and thrive from the competitiveness.. I can see him becoming frustrated if hes starts having his game time reduced. Edited by MonsterMunch (27 Jan 2022 8.55am)

I wonder if it's because he's no longer the main man - i.e not such a big fish in a small pond, or more like he's been joined by other similar size fishes, so doesn't feel he has to be the one and only attacking force anymore?

I also though that its telling that his importance in the Ivory Coast team is also dwindling. Started 1 out of 4 games. But to be fair they do have a pretty impressive crop of wide men. Boga is out of contract in the summer, worth tapping him up. And Cornet if Burnley go down

Nothing changes, he got booked for mouthing off, usual thing he got in a tangle with an Egyptian player, not much in it, but you know wilf, his eyes started to bulge out of his head and he wouldn’t let it drop…..Tucked his penalty away well though under pressure And he only came onto the pitch after 77 minutes!

All very true.Unfortunately,he has almost become a bigger whining ,whinger than that well known loser,Sir Keir Starmer!! what a stupid comment. You do know as leader of the opposition his job is to hold the govt to account. You need to avoid taking your 'news' from the Sun or the Mail.

Back to the subject on the card .... I welcome him back and relish the thought of him on the left, Olise on the right and Edouard in the middle. Both now require a minimum of two defenders to shadow thus leaving Gallagher and Eze to probe and provide from behind. OK it means reverting to 3-2-5 but not convinced 4-3-3 is our best set-up. I believe Wilf will be with us for a long time as his histrionics and bad temper don't look good on his CV but, given the brutality he sometimes has to endure, it is understandable if hard to forgive..

One thing I have noticed is that both Olise and Eze seem able to glide past defenders with much more ease than Wilf does these days. He is still a good player but I wish he could apply himself more effectively and consistently. That early goal against Southampton at home in December reminded us of how dangerous he can be around the box - it's just that he doesn't do that enough.

Personally I believe Wilf has just realised he can be more effective by playing inside passes to oncoming players, looking for give and gos around the box. Very few of the top players take on players constantly, it's all about ball movement and finding space, I believe Wilf has moved onto this side of the game. Sure he was more exciting taking on players but a lot of those mazy runs would end up with him being dispossessed or a weak cross with his left foot. Before it was a one man show, give the ball to Wilf and see what he can do, now there's more skill and responsibility spread throughout the team.

Play Wilf as centre forward. He knows where the net is better than anyone else and he’s got one of the hardest and most accurate shots in the PL.
