I hope Ghana go all The way to the final of Afcon,

Our playing out from the back with ball playing defenders is allowing us to create more chances and should continue to accrue more points in future games.
However, I don’t see our record on conceding from set pieces, crosses and balls over the top necessarily improving.
Anderson could easily have been sent off yesterday, continually failed to clear his lines with weak headers and clearances falling to the edge of the box and was culpable for the last minute chance for Vydra.
On the other hand he had an involvement in our goals and is a very good footballer with a good range of passing.
Similarly Guehi has many footballing attributes but is not a dominant central defender and our goalkeeper , whilst a good shot stopper, does not dominate his penalty area.
This leads me conclude that our vulnerability will continue in this area, but I believe the upsides will outweigh the downsides.

12 games in we have 16 points, scored 18 with 17 against

Same stage last season? After 12 games 17 points scored 18 with 17 against!

Fully agree, Roy was great for this club and kept us in PL under very difficult circumstances. As a point of interest our points tally is currently about the same as it was last season at this time. Let’s enjoy the moment but be aware there is still a long way to go before we can say we are safe this season!

Patrick - I agree with you on everything bar the upsides outweighing the downsides.
Central defence is both our strength and weakness but we will get worked out and if teams continue to pump the ball into our box we will suffer.
To be fair the whole team fails to defend set pieces at the moment and the coaching staff need to deal with it urgently.
We have let in more set piece goals than any other team - 9 in 12 games.
If it follows on then we will concede nearly 30 goals this season from set pieces alone which would be horrific.

We give away some cheap free kicks and yesterday was no different.

Players who don't deserve any respect shouldn't be surprised when the ref doesn't give them any.

The situation isn't improved by "expert" ex-players on MOTD, one of whose favourite comments is "he was entitled to go down". (But for what it's worth I still think Andersen should have been red-carded.)

I agree, I wish these idiots would just move on. Would of been really messy on here if RH was still manager today and failed to pick any of Olise, Edouard or Eze.

I think PV is doing a great job, as did RH.

Like everything in life, evolution works better in the long run than revolution. Roy was the right manager in his time. Vieira is the right manager for the present time. If anyone deserves a lot of credit, it's Parish who put both of them in a position to deliver what we needed, when we needed it. A lot of supporters need to grow up and realise that some of their criticisms are little more than pettiness borne of ignorance. The definition of a "great job" is not constant. It depends on meeting expectations and expectations change.

I dont think it was a foul he was falling over even before he turned fine balance between a foul and falling over unbalanced, also woods didnt seem to sure if he was fouled.
As for Teke lets enjoy the ride he is scoring and pundits have never missed a good chance of scoring (yeah right).

I still feel its time for Butland to play, and Kouyate dropped he doesnt jump or try to head the ball more in the way than helping, which unbalance the 2 CHs we had Teke on as a stand in CH on set plays thats enough cover no need for K, but Guiata doesnt help on set plays never looks comfortable

It is not hard - stop giving away stupid free kicks in our half (Ayew), and be more committed to clearing the ball. Koutaye let his marker go for the first, and 3 of then fannying around looking at the ball for the second. Ward 6'2", Jock 6'4", and Kouyate (not small) get your head on the ball please fellas.

Need to sharpen up pretty quickly as teams will be looking for cheap fouls and pumping the ball high in the box going forward. Vinnie needs to be a bit more commanding going forward.

I think Tomkins is our best out and out CB but the other two give us so much more in the other parts of the game and contribute to our attacking play. We wont get an harder aerial test than Burnley all season. Mees goal was well inside the six yard box which is the keepers domain and VG should have dealt with it particularly as the ball was high which should have given him the chance to get a fist on it chance. More worrying is the ball through the middle which keeps catching us out. Still loving the new approach though

Burnley’s second goal was really poor, we had 3 players there to block it and they got in each other’s way. Didn’t get to the match, so will watch the full match a little later.

We seem to be playing all the top teams at their best and the weaker teams when they are starting to show some form.

On a good note, only one point behind the Seasiders now. Didn’t take long to close that gap which we are always told to mind. Brighton’s luck and form is deserting them now, just how we like it!
