Agreed, Biden is currently the most powerful man in the world. All the excuses are only making things worse.

One minor positive that may come out of this terrorist groups in the UK target the disenfranchised by claiming that the people of Afghanistan and Iraqi are repressed by foreign invaders from the USA/UK. The pictures on the news of thousands of people fleeing the Taliban coupled with stories about their brutality and pleas for the Americans to return may, hopefully, make vulnerable Muslim youngsters realise that the Taliban/ISIS/AQ are the real scumbags and far worse to Muslim's than the west has ever been.

Although, that's a huge leap of faith.

What a pity they are not Joe's....

I wouldn"t be so sure on the first line Stirling, maybe he would have, perhaps not. He talked the talk but always had a different way a couple of days later, he did want criticise Joe for not leaving earlier, so you imagine he"s a happy man tonight after his wish was granted.

Didn't Trump say that if the Syrians used gas (or did they) he'd bomb them.....and when there was a gas attack that's what he did.

He also left the women and men of the pkk, who fought isis in the theatre and not from the air- to their fate against the might of the Turkish army, after they had done all the hard graft.

Very sad steeleye, but as joe said, if the 300000 had stood and fought the 75000 taliban, they might have stood more chance, rather than jumping on a moving plane. Very sad either way.

True....I can't say I supported some of what he did.

I can't say that if you stay in these places for twenty years that up and leaving is going to be a net benefit.

Nope, I'll never be that guy who just supports a policy just because of political tribalism......I think Trump was wrong on this....America and the west in general are probably wrong on this.

I was probably wrong on this.....because twenty years ago I was a neo con....because I believed those arguments.

But I changed those opinions a long time ago.....once you stay there it's probably worse pulling out.....The Americans have bases all over the world and they haven't pulled out there have they.

Yeah, I"m liking your Ivory towers quote Stirling, it"s them and us, and happens all over the world, even Afghanistan with their president.

Perhaps the slightest shred of good to come from this, and it is a tad self-regarding concerning how we all interact with each other, is there seems to be, grudgingly at times, a general consensus about the piss poor quality of political leadership, across the board, in the Western World at the moment.

We are all being played. That much is as clear as day to me. And we all come from a collective social class who have paid the real price, at least in terms of Western lives, for not only Afghanistan but every other insane Western interference in the matters of other countries.

I am sure that within a few days we would all have retreated to our usual trenches and be back lobbying the usual BS at each other, but on this terrible tragedy, there appears a political unity of a kind that offers at least a minuscule fraction of hope that perhaps we can be rid of this parasitical political class we have lumbered ourselves with if we all collectively acknowledge what a shower of utter f***wits they are and don't let that wisdom fade.

Very well said. We're all being played and are set against one another to distract us from where the real injustices of life manifest. I'm sure those with real power and say find that quite hilarious.

Well, if anyone wants to storm the barricades, give me a heads up and I'll bring me packed lunch.

I was going to say Amen to that-but at the risk of upsetting any Taliban on here, withdrew my comment!
