Independence is not just about Scotland and NI with a dash of Wales. The Northern Independence party is not just a joke I think they will poll well. Can't see why Labour are persevering with Starmer, no ideas, no policies and really looks like Johnsons deputy. An opposition leader must oppose. Moderate labour PMs like Wilson and Blair were always all over the tories.

Labour are moving further and further away from its roots. Working class people just don't see any relevance to a London centric party obsessed with identity politics and the alphabet soup. Politicians always obsess over the centre ground because they feel that is where the votes are. Yet there is a gaping whole for working class voters who no longer vote Labour and would not dream of voting Tory. I thought for a moment that the Brexit Party might feel that gap but apparently not. The Lib Dems are just drifting between Labour and the Greens and have no real identity or appeal to Northern voters. Working class people tend to be conservative (small c) and patriotic in their outlook. Their votes are up for grabs or they may just sit at home next time.

Decolonise maths? Seeing how some of the school leavers I worked with didn’t know their times tables learning those would’ve been a better idea.

Heard a couple of interviews with them. Interesting concept. Not sure who they will appeal to in terms of actual politics outside of a few progressive types so more a case of the usual Left-wing 'splitters' but potentially the reason why Labour could lose this seat (I think it will be much closer than the most recent polling suggests).

They were not opposing in a major crisis. He must bide his time and watch a large Tory majority muck it up while sh1tting all over the Red Wall who voted them in.

So if a gammon says he likes having sex with multiple partners (not at the same time) he is branded a dirty old man. #MeToo Apparently though if you are a the daughter of a lefty celebrity couple you are called polyamorous and presumably you are celebrated. #DoubleStandards Edited by Badger11 (29 Apr 2021 9.22am)

Labour have always had the youth in their pocket. trouble is, they are unreliable and have a poor propensity to turn up when it matters. The urban populations are also pretty much on their side; but they are alienating the older among them (who do vote) for the very reasons you give. And there is then the Great North, as you say. Willing voters desperately seeking a flag to follow. Brexit galvanized the North who flocked to the Tories as they were the only "proper" party who promised to deliver. Obviously, the same cannot happen in 2024. The Tories will offer pre-election bribes and the canny North will say: nice, but why didn't you offer this when we first voted for you? But will Labour be there to recover those who seriously fell out with them if they continue to represent a progressive urban elite that most of the nation hates? Like you, I predict a very low turnout up North unless something fundamental changes between now and then.
