Mass Vaccination centres open today. No doubt there will be the usual teething problems leading to screaming headlines from the meeja that's it's all a disaster. For myself I will wait two weeks before passing judgement if they haven't got it sorted by then and if the numbers are not hitting the daily target then yes the government has screwed up, but let's wait and see first. Here's hoping for the best.

My concern is when and what they do to get back to normal life and reality seeing as anything other than simple policies they cannot do and make a mess of. The only things they can do properly are; Lockdown when people were scared because it was all unknown. Furlough Vaccinate

How can targets on actual jabs be met if this is happening countrywide!

They didn't want THE CHIP!! All jokes aside, yes it must slow things up no end, but that's their choice I suppose. One that may well cost them.

Yes if they really can reach 2,000,000 vaccinations a week they will have finally got something right, and that's a hell of a lot of people put out of harms way in a short period of time.

This is a very ambitious target and I suspect many have have formed the view that it is unattainable.Time will tell! Even IF this target is met and the elderly/vulnerable are protected in the next few months there could still be high a number of new cases each day outside this group and draconian measures could still be in place for fear that this could impact the NHS. I cannot see me being able to go abroad or enjoy a tipple in a public house until at least the second part of the year.

Presumably as those being vaccinated are people most likely to take up ITU beds the pressure on the NHS will go down soon. Maybe not for A&E but for ITU, which is feeling the crunch at the moment But the other side of that is we aren't vaccinating the workforce. So the virus will carry on circulating for months to come. I don't know how we should react to that, do we lock down or accept the high levels of infection until the vaccinations are completed I still worry that large volumes of virus in the system not only will allow it to find its way to the vulnerable but also to continue a high rate of mutation.

My concern relates to the virus circulating for months to come even though the elderly/vulnerable would have received their jabs. Even though there might be less pressure on ITU beds and of course the NHS, we could still be faced with severe restrictions for some time to come. There is a zero-Covid faction who believe we must keep the pressure on the virus until it is completely eliminated.Their campaign spills into demands for permanent restrictions to ensure that in the future nobody suffers from a respiratory infection from which they might pass away. They are in the immortality business.

On Boris' announcement today. 2.4million people have received a vaccination. Thats 3.5% of the UK population. The first vaccination was on 8th Dec, taking into account ramping up jabs and bank Holidays it seems like 5% of the population a month would be a realistic expection. So we are looking at around the end of September for 50% of the population being vaccinated and back to normal. If the vaccination works, I'd imagine that pressure on hospitals would start to drop rapidly from the end of this month as a combo of lockdown, vaccines and hurd immunity. Leading to a staged reopening of schools (Feb), shops (March), pubs (April), events (May) etc. Probably staggered by region.

If people cannot be bothered or think there is an ulterior motive then so be it. The problem is that others would gladly have had it. These people without a good reason they didnt accept it should go to the back of the queue.
