As an aside my annual travel insurance policy expires at the end of this month and I normally leave it until the last day to renew but as a person of a certain age with existing medical conditions I thought I'd better renew it now in case the premiums shot up

Increased level of contagiousness aside, you could also track ‘normal’ flu each winter in this way and easily create the same level of hysteria. Deaths, cases etc.

The biggest issue here is not a Health related one, it’s an economic one.

Airlines and tourism certainly have a lot to lose - ME can scoff all he wants but less people flying over an extended period has significant knock on effects.

My personal take is this will become endemic much like the H1N1 strain, and within 18 months will be included as part of the annual flu jab.
