By chance, living in Croydon central, my vote could actually matter. But throughout my adult life, living in Beckenham and Hove, my vote was always quite irrelevant. Safe tory majorities no matter what. So you think we need a hung parliament at every election then, and a permanent repeat of the last two and a half years.

I mean it’s probably fair to say if you think any political party will ‘make everything better’ you’re being mugged off.

Actually yes, the government can't do as much harm to its citizens in a hung or minority parliament. As we have seen, it is forced into scrutiny of its policies and often redress of its past follies. That liberal leader, trying to get back into bed with the conservatives, has handed a free election to Johnson with a long tiresome as you were campaign. It won't even succeed for her either as obviously the tories will not be going into coalition with the libdem policy of revoking Article 50.

We just happen to agree about Brexit but on other political matters not so much.

Oh YES there is wissy we stay loyal to our party unlike you who switches allegiance when it suits you. It's that kind of attitude that drives me to despair. Loyalty is a praiseworthy attribute. Blind loyalty is irresponsible. If any party changes it's approach to such a degree that to continue to support it would be to compromise your principles then you have no respectable choice other than to withdraw that support. You might as well just be a machine because you are not using your brain. The Tory party have morphed into UKIP and are on the way to Brexit light. They are no longer the party I supported when the likes of Macmillan, Heath, Heseltine, Clarke etc etc played leading roles. Imagine them lurching even further away to the right and becoming more and more authoritarian, sidelining Parliament, abolishing the fixed Parliament's Act so they could extend indefinitely their grip on power. I know it's unlikely at the moment but just imagine it. Would you, and Willo, go on blindly supporting them just because you are "loyal"? Don't you worry about my children and grandchildren. They are doing just fine and very, very rarely, if ever, do we discuss politics. If we do it's because they want to and then they lead the conversation. Edited by Wisbech Eagle (31 Oct 2019 5.34pm)
