What’s this midweek Roy pep talk about how bad things at Palace will be this season?

It was an interview Roy did with the London Evening Standard, saying we are in for a lot of heartache this season...

Spurs league form is not great and even Newcastle beat them!

Losing 4-0 at half time was just simply not good enough. I hope they put the effort in against Wolves but Roy will just play the same out of form players.

Going to be a long season again.

I was surprised how cynical Spurs became in 2nd half, especially the constant pulling of Wilf, in his own half! On my commentary Tony Gale couldn't believe Kane was not booked for similar foul. Perhaps he gets preferential treatment as he is Harry Kane!

Totally unacceptable first half performance. If Sakho was rusty then why play him. Poor performance Poor tactics and Poor management.

Who would you have played instead of Sakho, there was no one else, except the other rusty CH Tompkins

Tomkins (no 'p') is still injured.

In the interview by Hodgson that is referred to he talked of more heartache and struggle for the fans and spoke almost fondly about Palace’s days in the old Third Division South.
It could be argued that he is being realistic and dampening expectations of the fans so that a mid table position would seem like winning the Champions League.
I can’t subscribe to that view.
For me the real crime is to aim low and miss which is where we could be heading with this negative philosophy.
Hodgson often gives the impression that he is happy with a narrow 1-0 defeat and his main annoyance yesterday was probably conceding 4 goals.
With a solid defence and two holding midfield players I am sure we could still be sound defensively and offer more threat up front.
Instead we play with 9 behind the ball every week.

We were due a thumping ... and we got one, from one of the best teams in Europe.

2nd half we contained them and credit to Roy for ensuring that after that first half ...

In simple terms / 3 words ... Champions League Finalists!

Next!!!

I don’t think we contained them at all in the second half. The game was won and they took the foot of the pedal. We were awful throughout :-(

4-2-3-1 should be an option.

I thought Kouyate went ok and same with Ward , all the danger came down the other side. In hindsight this was not the match to bring back Sakho, Kouyate should be an option after the summer but probably isn’t drilled.

The most frustrating performance was Roy’s. 4:0 down and you don’t change anything until a late swap of Ayew. We have Meyer, Camarasa, Mcarthy and even Reidewald who all need minutes. We could have come out and Kosovo’d it in the second half but no we just keep going with failed plan A. When we go down Roy seems to have no idea or energy to change. So frustrating.

People need to realise that Roy is never going to change. I agree it is soul destroying to sit there and not see any changes when there should have been changes made at half time.

Roy has a set formula that he sticks to no matter what the situation the same as Sam Alardyce and a few others. His thinking will be that if you start panicing and making changes then it could get a whole lot worse and if you look at our bench yesterday the only player you might have made a difference was Camarassa.

If you look at our bench yesterday who would you have changed ?

Meyer - Would have done nothing to change that game I am very dissapointed with him.
Benteke - We all know how bad he is right now
Tomkins - Not match fit
McCarthy - Not match fit and would have struggled to make a difference.
Camarassa - I would have liked to see him at half because at least he can keep the ball.

Perhaps if Roy adopted a new approach like Chelsea did and trust some of our better younger players he might find his results would be much better. In this game you have to take chances and that's exactly what Lampard has done. He trusted his youngsters to do the job and boy did they do it.

Just a thought!

Supported Palace for over 69 years since the age of 7 and have seen all the ups and downs and will probably see many more ups and downs before I go up to the big football club in the sky.

What younger players ????

Have you actually seen our underage teams ?

Lampard's young players are playing for England and are top class. Ours would struggle to get a game in my local park.
