Parish should have always been aware Zaha could leave anytime , even when signing an extension to his contract. I honestly believe the latest rumour ! Although a rumour is the Chelsea interest is deal I can see happening . Chelsea buying Zaha and loaning back until Ban lifted. Pay the 60 mil and throw in Batman or ,and another. Everyone happy and we don’t have to rush replacement or disrupt team too much before the season starts .

I'm not denying the facts and I do agree with most of the article. Maybe our first 11 was top 8 potential, but how often do you get to be able to play your first choices ? The squad is more of a problem because we lack quality in depth. And attracting quality players to compete for a place at our club is where we have difficulty. There is increased nervousness around this year because we sold AWB and the Zaha situation. And you can include me in that. I don't think Parish anticipated Zaha wanting to go otherwise maybe he would not have sold AWB. At the moment it's difficult to be positive about the coming season, but that could all change if we manage to onboard a couple of decent players. I'm not holding my breath on that one though. Yep. I’d love to know Parish’s thinking this summer, especially with the AWB/Zaha conundrum. Selling either one has pros and cons, or he just took the sale of the first one.

Looking at the age of our squad and the lack of young transfers (in fact any transfers) we could be in serious trouble in a few years time. Not spending on young players now could mean most of our team will be from our U23's, and they aren't exactly proving themselves after recent performances. Our plan seems very short sighted and as a result it's costing us more money. Yep. And what is Freedman finding us? Unless Meyer has a better 2nd season which does happen, not a lot is the answer.

Our plan seems very short sighted and as a result it's costing us more money. Also, when we brought in Sakho, Luka, PVA (who I still really like), I think we've promised them an overhaul of the team and maybe compete for Europe. I don't think we just told them yeah we'll fight to avoid relegation every single year. Now, with their contracts coming into the final 1-2 years, you can understand why they're reassessing. Luka can play at Inter/Valencia level and thus play CL football and not have to worry about relegation. Sakho can get a contract with any top French team other than PSG... I don't think SP intentionally lied to them or anything, but his plan didn't work out or he didn't work hard enough to achieve it. Luka really loves the fans and setup here, but why wouldn't he like the one at Valencia, or a decent German side that's not Bayern? All this to say the players we might be losing much sooner than we think experience the shortcomings in the squad much more intensely than we do, and you can't blame them if they want out. With a core of Kelly, Schlupp, Kouyate, Henn, and Wickham I do worry about our Championship status too in case we go down this season.

We have a ageing squad, one of the oldest in the premier league with only two players now below 25 sorloth and meyer. I would say this is concerning, especially as we dont seem to be linked with any players coming through.

"Chelsea will not be able to sign any players this summer..." No disrespect, but I'm inclined to give preference to the Independent's interpretation over yours.
