We put up with Wilf saying every f***ing summer and winter that he wants to leave.

On the right terms, Clyne is the no brainiest no-brainer ever. He's exactly what we need while we bring Ferguson through.

Agreed. If a club comes in with a good package for him and good game time, he should absolutely take that deal.

If that doesn't happen, a 1 year deal on the right terms for the player who will be only our 3rd natural full back with any semblance of Premier League (and professional football) experience feels a no brainer.

Not sure I'd go quite that far GPW. However, our website are keeping it all very low key. He is simply here to regain fitness. What his (and the club's plans are after that is anyone's guess, but if he shows he's still got it and the terms are reasonable for a short term deal then it may make sense to consider him. BUT we have to keep in mind that at the end of this window we will have to name our 25 first team squad members and if we bring in one or two more signings with a view to them being first teamers, we may have to say no to Clyne.

I imagine fairly soon we could see a new thread entitled something like "Who are the 25 in your 1st team squad?"

Agreed.
Clyne is proper quality. Just need him fit and injury free and it would be a great bit of business.

Look how good Cayhill is and he’s six years older.

Last year there was a rumour that Roy was interested in Gary Cahill who had been released by Chelsea.

"No thanks", "too old", "past it", "if Chelsea let him go he must rubbish now, why do WE want him" etc. etc.

Murphy was out for 2 years with an injury. "No thanks", "injury prone", "not played for ages"
etc. etc.

Ayew? "Why do we want him?" "Nah, not for me" etc. etc.

Clyne is 29, no job, no income, during the Covid crisis. More than a 1000 players have been released during the lockdown, and we have not got to the end of it. A LOT of clubs are close to going under, so more players losing their livelihoods.

Juventus have posted £71m losses, Barcelona are struggling, several EPL teams too. The bubble has burst.

Surely now is the right time to strike a deal. I'll trust the experts at Palace on whether Clyne can serve as worthy back in our squad or not.

I am not a bot. No, seriously, I'm not.

Well Roy has just confirmed they will look at Nat and assess whether they are going to make an offer or if Nat would accept an offer. So the interest is there and it’s not purely a favour to an ex player to help him get fit.

Yes, but by way of balance, he is injured and not likely back any time soon, largely because of his age.

You might believe it’s due to his age but it’s impossible to know.

Vive le Roy!

Clyne had a cruciate ligament injury similar to Wickham. He is finished at the top level, he will keep being out injured, there is no more room in the physio room, already full of defenders.

Cruciate ligament injuries finish some players' careers.

Not ones with strong mentalities and good medical teams. The club will know in a few weeks of training.
