I was at the game! As I now live in Cornwall I don't get to many but I am currently on a break in the Lakes so decided to make the trip over to the east. My first ever visit to St James' Park. What a stadium! Everything works, no queues for beer or food, clean and abundant toilets, polite staff, great view of a good pitch. Even the Newcastle supporters were polite and friendly, unlike the deluded ones I have encountered elsewhere. It was a typical Palace smash and grab. They soaked up the pressure and although the stats suggest that Newcastle had a lot of shots most were either blocked or easily collected. Very few really threatened whilst we always looked dangerous on the break, especially in the last 20 mins as the game got stretched. I worried that Palace would tire but Roy used the subs wisely and we actually looked much better when Benteke came on. He won balls in the air, spread the play and looked much more like his old self. Then Wilf and Luka did what they do best, which I could see coming and said as much to the guy sitting next to me, who took it in a good spirit after I was proved right. If only we had a home game strategy as effective!

We didn't deserve anything from that game yesterday however as we haven't beaten them in 20 years and been robbed on more than one occasion I will take that.

Well done Roy and the boys I think a few Geordie fans were crying in their brown ales last night.

The next best thing to thumping a team is winning when you didn't deserve it.

Well we have finally met at team who are worse than us at finishing!!
Seriously it was a sh-t game and we mugged then at the end, but then so what? Thats the way it goes. Our turn to get a bit of luck. They should know that you dont try nd tackle Wilfred in the box - he's too good for you!
Good away turnout as always - Im too keen on the elevated section you get at Newcastle though.
I feel genunely sorry for Newcastle fans. They are the most deluded in the PL. They really do think they are one of the best teams in Europe, not just England. Theyre probably as bad as us.

Wisbech Eagle above you (who was there, not saying you weren't) describes a good display with soaking up pressure well restricting them very few clear cut chances and hitting them on the break.

i watched the whole game and to be fair we were pretty poor. I despair at our passing, even the simple passes seem beyond our players and I mean all of them. Do they all train alone ? Will take the 3 points but it doesn't hide the fact we are a poor, boring predictable team.

An outstanding result againt a team that had won their previous 5 home games. From all accounts we didn't deserve it but at the end of the day we showed great character and determination to grind out a win.Was all smiles and yelps of delight in the Willo abode !

Agree with most of this, thank goodness we can still counter attack.

Probably my mind working overtime, but haven't had any reason why Meyer was not even on bench on Saturday, injury or illness or whatever, could it be a punishment for the Hennessey incident (supposedly a Meyer leak ) and waiting for outcome of investigation before dishing out the punishment, as I say pure conjecture,
