I did go to the game and was pleased to see him starting after all the cries for his inclusion from the the start by the forum. He had no impact of any significance on the game. When pressed and tackled he appeared to have no answer. In other games when he has come on as a substitute he has been very effective playing little triangles in forward positions. Today’s game did not enable him to do that. It might be he will be more effective against the top six type sides than the blood and thunder type teams. Not saying he is not a good player just think he is more limited in adapting to different styles of opposition than the likes of Jimmy Mac. Schlupp and Kouyate Like ManC and Spurs (cup) against whom he played and against whom we won. Or ManU (away) where we drew. He also came on after an hour against Arsenal and made a difference.

He was clearly frustrated himself yesterday and I'm sure I wasn't the only one who thought he was going to get himself sent off. In fact I think he was subbed within minutes of his booking which he should have no complaints over.

The German Jose Campana. He will have to make do with game time from the bench for the time being, which is where his best performances have come from. The opposition is irrelevant, he did not take his opportunity again yesterday. Very good player but still has a lot to do to prove he’s good enough.

Sorry, whilst I agree with most of what you say I can’t agree with that highlighted. He has played well against the technically gifted sides but not against the cloggers (well, at least not until they tire). His cameo against Utd was excellent and he changed the dynamic of the game with his quick incisive passing. I agree he is nowhere near the finished article however I do think he is capable of starting the game very much dependent upon the opposition, (horses for courses if you like). I admit to being surprised he started against Burnley however I think that was more to do with Roy giving McArthur a rest. Some foreign players take a season to adapt to the pace of the PL. I think he is one of those players and I hope that next year we will see better things from him.

My son saw the game against United and sent me comments such as "Meyer makes us a different team, always on the half turn". I saw the game yesterday and sent him comments such as "Meyer is too lightweight, not up to this type of game, booked and then substituted". I think this gives some support to the comments above about the type of game/opposition he needs in order to thrive.

So that he could be nurtured up to the top level. Well judging by his performances (aka Man Utd) he is making very good progress, but yesterday showed he is not there yet. He couldn't hope for a better mentor than RH. The more the season goes on the more I am starting to realise that RH is head and shoulders above most posters on here. Just look what he has achieved with Schluppie, and many more starting to shine big time. We are fast becoming a very exciting outfit.

Whilst yesterday's game wasn't the right one to stick him in from the off, it will help him in the long run when it comes to getting used to the speed and physicality of the league. He is still young and given his size it was always going to take a season for him to adjust and get used to the style here. I hope we stick with him and I hope he gets to start a few on the spin to build up his confidence. I think he could be a big player for us next year especially if he can do the right work over the summer to couple his quality with a bit of strength and conditioning. I see far too many people on here write signings off after a couple of games as if they expect players to come in set the world alight. People saying Batshauyi isn't the signing for us after a couple of starts despite scoring two goals already. We need to give players time to settle, Klopp is a fantastic example of doing this with players like Fabinho barely featuring for the first half of the season and now flourishing as he was brought in at the right time. Same with Keita. These two players look fantastic but they are being introduced slowly and with patience. We need to give our players more time before getting on their back and doubting their abilities. Edited by JohnB (03 Mar 2019 1.08pm)

I don’t think anyone is writing him off just yet. He has on occasions looked excellent. I agree he changed the game against united. He seems best suited to when the game opens up and he can drift into space playing in neat little triangles with incisive passing. Yesterday’s game did not suit. He so far has been most effective as annimpact sub. I hope in time that he can be more than that.
