Don’t 3 year FFP cycles begin and end every year for every club?

Yes, but I read somewhere that the actual parameters are reviewed every three years too. Last review was 2016.

I'll see if I can find it....

I've never heard of factoring agents funding transfer fees and it's a business that I know a bit about

I seem to recall there was a loan from Barclays against 'guaranteed future income' a while back?

Yep. May 17 in the name of CPFC Ltd - subsequently satisfied.

I have a client (cant name) who used to own a professional football club. That's how he bought all his players.

OK that didn't work - article about Riyad Mahrez, in a £60m transfer of the player from Leicester City to Manchester City. Australian investment bank Macquarie, provided the factoring.

Is this what you or anyone else expects or think we’re doing or ever intend to do?

To explain, in 10 years, if we're still in the Prem and have a new main stand, new training facilities and no doubt significantly better players, then I think it would be reasonable to expect to be in a situation where we could be expecting to occasionally break into the top 5/6 bracket, yes. Unlikely to be consistently so, but I think 10 years is fair to get to a level of say, Everton, who have broken the top 6 on occasion and are usually in and around there.

What I didn't mean is challenging for UCL places. Frankly, if Burnley with a massively overachieving team can qualify for the EL then I can't see why us sniffing around the top 6 in 10 years time is so hard to grasp.

The reason for my initial post was, to your point, down to the fact that a lot of people seem to think we should be inside the top 10 regularly. I disagree, as per my post. We had, and still have, a lot of legacy issues to deal with but we're progressing in a responsible way.

Found it - thanks

It isn't really factoring but that seems to be a useful term tagged on to the transaction. The article mentions that MacQuarrie funded the transaction via a secured lending facility which is a more accurate way of describing it.

In any case it's all fairly academic as if we buy a player from another club we owe the club, a bank or Uncle Tom Cobley for him and it will be a creditor in our accounts

As a matter of interest in any company commercial finance in one way or another will be available as long as the bankers have sufficient security to hang their hats on. In these cases it's a contract to pay transfer fees on a specific date and in our case it was short term funding secured against a contract with Sky to receive broadcast fees

Well the creditor has early access to liquidity and the bank takes some credit risk - though not much in Man City's case.

Where you think we should be after 10 years in the Premier, is exactly what about another 20 clubs want. Many are in a far better position of infrastructure than us, as we have suffered from severe mis management from previous Owners.
It’s not easy to achieve, as many have found out. Why do you think it’s not difficult to be hovering around the top 6, many clubs have thrown millions at trying, but get nowhere, Everton is a good example.

Also, the tone of your opening comment, written as it is in the past tense, suggests that you think we might be. I can't quite tell. I appreciate you think we are constrained financially but that's a world away from financial trouble.

I agree with the rest of your post but would observe that Meyer, Guaita and Batshuayi appear to be astute decisions, although I do wonder what we pay them. I guess you alluded to that.

I meant Brighton ‘fans’ or the press couldn’t wait to report we’re in financial trouble. I’ve always thought we wouldn’t be. That’s never been my concern. Hamstringing ourselves in future windows or only having 11-13 good enough because we’ve spent £30 mil and then wages of £130k per week has been, due to our almost non existent scouting.

Meyer was free but he hardly fits Roy’s prerequisite list. He’s an example. A player who’s ‘available’ rather than we’ve tempted the player and selling club to part with a player, or found an up and coming talent.

Batsman leaves in 3 months.

Vicente, good. Kouyate too, so there are signs of succeeding in transfers, but it’s got to be better, especially with activity we’ll have coming up with either or Roy, Wilf, Bissaka or Sakho leaving or just being able to spend a bit more.

I know. I don’t ‘expect to occasionally break into the top 5/6’ at all. Just being mid table and flirting with 7th or 8th maybe now and then will do, or not at all. And there’s a big difference between 5-6th and 7th-8th. Hundred million or 2 or 3 or more. Usually clubs with talented players tend to lose them and struggle with cheeky asking fees for replacements and/or players and attitudes that don’t fit.

I think we needed a new Cabaye and Meyer looked great for it. Small, mobile, good passer, vision. Just been an average start for him, which is fairly common.

Batshuayi works if he massively cuts the relegation risk and lifts us a few places. I think he will/might.

But I do completely agree with your sentiments.

If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities.
