If you're still on the M4 you might be better off finding a pub. You'll be lucky to catch the second half. Hopefully you missed the whole game.

If we showed more intent after going behind we could have got something out of the game. Really baffled by our tactics sometimes, you can see once we pressed Chelsea back it lifted the crowd. Not great to finish the year on a performance as unimaginative as that.

Stuck in traffic on the m4 does anyone know the latest you can arrive? Tia Don't worry, plenty of room in the Chelski penalty area for late comers to park. Edited by Booted Eagle (30 Dec 2018 2.13pm)

Shots on target - 0. That's at home. Timid clueless tactics and team selection from Hodgson - again. If it was a one off, fair dues, but it is happening all too regularly now.

It isnt poor management, its smart management... Good to see Wickham has settled into the role of big striker who causes problems and cant finish even now! Him and Benteke with Wilf and Andros on the wing is going to be amazing though, 2nd half of the season should be a lot more fun than the 1st... Spot on, Meyer and Wickham lacking fitness required. Roy has to try and get the best out of the squads fitness. Zaha is better on the wing, but he has nobody to play up front with Ayew and Sorloth being useless. We get the occasional result against a top 6 team, but Chelsea pressed all over the pitch and we couldn't get forward until late on.

Looked like Roy hodgsons England today. Dead performance with late subs again. Sit behind the ball and soak up pressure until we give the ball away and concede. Poor Agree 100%. Negative tactics. Worse than Pulis.

Wickham needs to go get playing time in a lower league and maybe, MAYBE come back a year later in the Premier League and Benteke needs new, fresh air to rdiscover his form (somewhere else).

There were some plus points. Wan-Bissaka was excellent. In fairness, our keeper didn't have a great deal to do but he made at least a couple of top saves. Might he have done better with their goal? Possibly, though he got down to the shot pretty smartish. However, he can't punt the ball anywhere near as far as Wayne H. Meyer was lively and Wickham had the glint in his eye of a man determined to make up for lost time by scoring a hatful of goals. COYP

After we fell behind, I suspect Roy was playing for a draw. I think he was saving Wickham and Meyer for late, hoping we could score an equalizer and not leave Chelsea time to retake the lead. Along with everyone else on the board, I think playing them 25-30 minutes might have been wiser.

I thought the tactics made sense in the circumstances. What befuddles me is the lack of willingness to change things when we go behind. Meyer on for Schlupp at the half, and/or bringing Wickham on 10-15 minutes earlier would have given us an outlet to relieve pressure and provided more going forward. I accept Wickham can’t start, but an extra 10 minutes or so shouldn’t be out of the question.
If you come to a fork in the road, take it. |
