Going to be a very important player for us. Other than a striker he’s been the player we have been crying out for, for a few seasons now. We now have a link between midfield and attack. World class 23 years old on a 3 year contract. Got to give Parish, Freedman and co massive respect for this signing. When our first choice 11 are fit we are a match for anyone in this league. Barring another crisis I expect us to shoot up the league between now and the new year. Get RLC and a striker and we could be in dream land (and not the Margate one).

Yeah but it’ll be with Wilf leaving in the summer probably, although hopefully with players already here to take over. I doubt we’ll get RLC with Meyer playing well. It’s not Parish’s way.

Ray Lewington was guest speaker at the Supporters' Trust AGM on Monday and I took the opportunity to ask him what Meyer's best position was. He ran through the positions that aren't his best: defensive midfielder (not strong enough in the tackle); wide right (prefers not to play there); or in the No.10 role (he doesn't like playing there). He concluded that the position he played at Old Trafford was his best (essentially on the left side of a midfield four). Ray also suggested that the performance at Old Trafford had been very good and the shirt was more or less his to lose. Obviously things might change but I don't think we'll see Meyer in the No.10 role for some time. So, although Maine might be right about Andros being the one to drop out, I think MM will be part of a supporting four. Interesting to read that, would've like to have been there given Ray was so open. In his post match interview today Meyer corroborated that he prefers not to play DM but hinted he doesn't mind getting forward, so perhaps his best position is to play in the middle, perhaps on the left as you said, with license to drive forward as he did today, operating between no. ten and no. 8 roles more or less. Its working a charm.

He looked the business today. Absolute class. Controlled everything, kept the ball, sent men running forward and had a few pretty good shots as well. Unlucky not to score. Looks like a natural creative player, more so than say Cabaye, and adds more than a veneer of class and precision to our play.

I thought he'd scored the goal that was credited to McArthur ... who also played well ... but he hadn't of course.

If he strengthens up a bit more (nice to see him make a full-blooded challenge towards the end) we are looking at a very special player.
