Used to be a Benteke fan (Aston Villa days), but too many games he contributes very little now. And goals from him seems almost impossible. Get rid while his market price is still reasonable and introduce 2 strikers with different work ratio and (at least) an eye for goal..

What is all this crap. Well said. What planet are people on who want to get rid? Form (including poor form) is temporary, class is permanent. Benteke is a top quality international striker who will come good sooner or later. I really can't see strikers of his ability queuing up to join a club in the relegation zone in the January window. The best we are likely to get is back up.

At least there's a decent chance Tekers will start firing again. We could've been stuck with Gestede, Berahino or Bumfluff. Edited by chateauferret (03 Dec 2017 9.19am)

Is that how much in the mire we have got ourselves in that a player who is disappointing, not scoring, and looks a bit out of place has to be in the team? Are we that stricken by incompetence that we can't get out there and look for another option?

I would look to get two good strikers in during the Jan window, with the fall back being one. It's a judgment call as to selling Benteke at that time but I would say keep him but needs a rocket up his a--e and possibly having to fight for his place maybe the motivation he needs because he sure is one lazy individual.

Thought he did ok yesterday. Pretty much won everything in the air. Just still think we need more from him. Need him to start putting some of the chances away. Just the nagging feeling we're not going to see the best of him.

But you're criticising Christian Benteke for playing like Christian Benteke. He's not a forward who runs channels and the manager isn't asking him to run all over closing down. He's being asked to fall back into shape when we lose possession and let them have the ball in their half, just as we did under Big Sam. He's winning countless headers to no avail as we aren't playing off him with this narrow formation. Personally would like us to go 4-2-3-1 and get people on both sides of him then the flick ons would have more chance of being picked up. Right now Roy has got us playing a certain style in order to pick up points and build confidence. If we can grab a couple of wins and confidence grows maybe Roy might take the handbrake off a little. For now our forwards are feeding on scraps which must be as frustrating for them as it is for us.

Benteke has not been injured all season. He has features in 10 games and scored zero in spite of several good chances, including a free header yesterday. Murray has played the same number of matches and scored five!!!!! This is not to suggest Murray should be comming back, cause that is not going to happen. But do suggest that even an old, average striker with a minimum of work rate and desire, would be a much better option than Benteke.
