The Jessie Owens card again. He was running in Nazi Germany. To compare that to now is insulting to the democracy we enjoy. So we can all protest at football matches or any place of employment when it takes our fancy? Are you sure you want to go with that? No one is stopping you. I've stood on picket lines. I've also refused to cross picket lines. Why do you not think those taking industrial action against an employer should not be allowed to organise and deminstrate at work. Can I tick off another box in my eye spy fascist book?

You are exibiting bias in this instance and ignoring my point entirely. Trump is the President. He can say what he likes if he considers it appropriate because he is an elected politician. Freedom of speech is a privilege that should not be abused by those who just happen to have mass exposure. Everyone is entitled to voice an opinion but not to take advantage of their position for political gain.
Here's another bit of the U.S. Constitution for you; it's the 1st Amendment: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. When people talk about "freedom of speech" the right establish here is what they're referring to. The government can't tell you what to say or what not to say, so when the President - who is the head of the government - tries to impinge upon, say, an NFL player's right to take a knee (the Supreme Court having long established that such an act is considered "speech") he is potentially violating that player's protected rights under the 1st Amendment). So, in reality, Trump is limited in what he can say while I, Colin Kaepernick and every other person in the United States can say pretty much whatever the f*** they like (this right having been adjudicated as not extending to dangerously inflammatory speech, like shouting "Fire!" in a crowded theatre). The whole basis of a protest is that many people disagree with it or do not see the merits of it. If white supremacists get a free protest pass from you, I'm pretty sure you shouldn't need to analyse this one to the nth degree. Edited by wordup (26 Sep 2017 3.49pm) Er. It doesn't. White supremacists weren't playing for a major football team at the time. It's a bit pointless arguing if you just talk in riddles. I have made my position clear. I confess I haven't ploughed through all 13 pages, but to answer the OP... In my opinion, national anthems are perfectly acceptable at international events, and even add to the occasion, but playing them (or rather "it" ) at a domestic event is ridiculous. I understand that at Wembley on Sunday both the USA and UK anthems were played...which is even more ridiculous! Now backtracking, I also find the anthem OK at the Cup Final, but that's more out of sense of tradition. Edited by YT (26 Sep 2017 3.57pm)

I view the reduction in social cohesion and plenty of other problems on policies progressives support certainly....Individual progressives can be very reasonable people and then you get others. However not all of those policies are exclusive to progressives. But yeah....obviously, once you rack up identity policies and race victimhood you encourage the same across all races. I have never viewed it as the right way to tackle this problem.
