'All white people are racist' says Jason Osamede Okundaye, head of Cambridge University equality group in Twitter outburst. If this is true - can't he be got under the new regulations of Hate Crime for stoking racial tensions. Let's not simply gripe. Use the law hold him to account, name and shame publicly, make his family, university and employer (including future one) embarrassed to be associated with him. [Link] ...I am sure it can be used both ways or am I being naive.

As soon as someone says, 'all (insert colour or group) people are'.....then you know that they are either looking for publicity or nuts. So they are either unethical or not packing the full picnic or both. Statements about humans that push simple absolutes are rarely accurate....but hey...they can get you elected.

Actually, all people are racist (over used word which is usually used in a lazy way when 'discrimination' should be used instead). We all apply stereotypes based on sex, colour, ethnicity, sexuality, nationality and so on -to-some-degree. Anyone who claims otherwise are either stupid or not a human being.

You obviously don't know what proper and actual racism is or means definition wise if you are going to lump it under the same umbrella as someone making a 'Germans and towels' joke or a 'women and pmt' funny.

I think there is a difference between preference and racism. But you are right, they are all forms of discrimination. And everyone discriminates.

As has been said, we all stereotype but it doesn't have to be in a malicious way. There's a difference between noticing difference, and fixating on it to the detriment of good people.

I agree that racism has become a bit wishy-washy these days. The best that the racism police can seem to find are people wanting to stop statues of historical figures who have been dead for 150 years being pulled down; white students with dreadlocks; and white philosophers being allowed on university syllabi; oh, and inappropriate exotic food and fancy-dress costumes.
We have now sunk to a depth at which the restatement of the obvious is the first duty of intelligent men. [Orwell] |

I do indeed know what it means definition wise as opposed to how it is applied in every day life.

Despite the proactive raids of known gang members there was still trouble.
I'm sure Stormzy will criticise the people who attacked the police. (Since he criticised the police for being heavy handed and racist) A ex colleagues wife and 12 year old daughter had a bad experience, I'm not sure what yet... but I know it involved my ex colleague driving up to London to collect them (he missed my BBQ because of it)

Well yes and no, that doesn't mean that they hold irrational prejudices either. Tajfel demonstrated this, but also shows this doesn't mean that they engage in behaviour that is racist, sexist etc to any significant degree that would affect that group. Also to an extent we socially construct many of these divisions of identity, rather than settle on them naturally.
