Look - I know it's very early days and we can't draw too many conclusions yet, but I do have a few concerns:

Recent palace history shows we fare much better keeping it tight and attacking on the break and horrendously badly when we try and open up and outplay better teams:
Holloway (too open) replaced by Pulis (did well).
Pardew (too open) replaced by Allardyce (did well).

We don't have the players to pass out from defence through central midfield, so we will need wholesale player changes to make that happen.

From the friendly today, we took far too many liberties in deep areas with high risk and little potential reward. In this way I was reminded of Holloway.

The other thing I don't like is how gleeful Parish was with getting FdB in. I wonder whether he has fully engaged his rational mind on this one.

So, I'm not making any concrete conclusions just yet, very early days as we all know. But I feel Frank has to get on with defensive / keeper recruitment pronto.

Listening to Parish when Frank was introduced as Palace manager, its clear that it was Parish who wanted a change in playing style and FdB who convinced him that he was the man for the job. Personally, I would like you feel happier with the counterattacking style, just buy in better players especially defensively. But the club has chosen a different route, and the team squad is much more balanced than this time last year with two very good left sided defneders now plus Souare hwen fit and Milivosevic finally arriving to replace Jedi. So I guess the last thing nay of us should do ta this tsage is start panicking!

Would be good to have a plan b for once.

Much better experimenting now, rather than during the season. We've had very little squad turnover, so we can put out the same team that ended the season and play the same way without too much trouble.

There wouldn't be much point in him just doing the same thing during pre-season. Much better to try things now, we can always revert to a more familiar formation later.

Absolutely. We can still field the team that won at Anfield.

A much improved performance today. We seemed happier to release the ball early from wide defensive areas up to our attacking players.

We still got into trouble trying to play from defence through our defensive midfield area. We managed to turn them a few times by doing this, but also gave away possession a few times. Not worth the risk imo.

It shouldn't need re-stating but I will anyway as some people didn't understand this from my OP: I know it's still only pre-season. Not jumping to any conclusions yet.

No, I'm not "sick" of it, because I don't recall it happening other than on the odd occasion when a pressure clearance was required, and there won't be a keeper ever that hasn't done that.

I not aware that FdB has expressed any sort of opinion on Wickham.

Just picked up on this Dave, it must be when i have seen WH in goal. His clearances and distribution are not great. I can see him getting a goalkeeper who is comfortable on the ball, who knows he might even make Jules number one!

I'd honestly rate Hennessey' distribution above Speroni's, as I would his ability to cut out crosses. Speroni is the better shot-stopper. We could sign a keeper that tops them both, but I somehow doubt we have the funds right now. I fully expect Hennessey to start against Huddersfield with Speroni on the bench.

It will be interesting to see what he does, but he is looking at the GK position. It has been muted about Adrian the West Ham keeper, and i wouldn't be disappointed if he went for him.

God knows what West Ham are doing replacing him for Joe Hart, who drops a clanger in every match...

Couldn't disagree more. For all of WH's faults as a keeper, he is very good with both feet and his distribution is generally very good, far more accurate than Speroni.

Its true we mustn't read too much into the friendly matches but there is no doubt we as not comfortable playing out. If we are going to do that we need the players to do it.
Of more concern for me was the lack of service to Benteke. He had so little to work with. The only crosses that came into the box were from corners. We need to try to double up on the flanks and get Wilf or Andros/schlupp in crossing positions or to drive behind the full backs for pull backs across the box.

Ok great, lets try to play a bit of football, but its really important to play to our strengths too.
